It seems once you get a diagnosis of something you can't stay out of a doctor's office for very long.  I just contacted my manager to give her a list of days I will either need off, leave early, or be in late, from October through November and there are a lot of days.  Phew its a lot.
Anyhow things aren't too bad.  Been having a continuation of digestive issues.  Have a GI appointment in October for this.  I am sure that will mean another day off somewhere from a scope... Lovely...
My joints have their days.  The most annoying is my jaw.  I am getting to the point I am used to the feet not wanting to work for an hour or so and then once I am off them I am done for the day.... Overall I think that the Rituxan is doing something because I am walking, not having to crawl, and not using an assistive devices to get around.  The fatigue is still hell.  I am okay in the morning but completely run down by 1pm.  There must be something out there to help this.
I already take Folic acid, multivitamins, Vit C with rosehips.  I eat better and gave up all sugary drinks and caffeine.
I was wondering something.  My rheumy mentioned the possibility of IBD based on symptoms and response to steroids.  Is is possible that maybe I have only Chron's and not RA or do people have both?  How will they decide since i have been being treated for RA for over a year.  The bowel issues started about 5 years ago when the RA got worse but the RA issues started nearly 10 or more years ago?  I don't have a positive RF.  I do have high CRP, high SED rate, and possible Antiphospholipid syndrome, though mild.

Hello babyloo,

Yes, does seem that when you get a diagnosis you stay at doctors' offices. Been there. Still there.

Have RA and Osteo. My sister has had IBD for years. Don't know if you have been misdiagnoised, etc.

Diagnosed with RA about 5 years ago. Extreme pain in every joint of my body. Had Rheumy give me shots in my wrists, hips shoulders since that time (cortizone & Xylecaine ==not sure about spelling).
On methotrexate, plaquenil, prednisone, etc.
However, no matter what cocktail of drugs my rheumy tried over the past five years, nothing seemed to help my back and the back of my hips. Constant, chronic and extreme pain. Gets me very depressed at times, but I keep moving. Afraid to stop.

Meds finally helped check pain in all joints, except my back, and made the pain manageable everywhere except my back. Kept complaining to my rheumy. Finally, he ordered an MRI and he discovered I have 3 spurs inside my spine. Now he believes me when I tell him about the back pain. Getting ready to ask about physical therapy and drugs such as humera and enbril. Harder and harder to manage pain. Now my dx is RA/Osteo. Before this, I was beginning to think I was 'bonkers' too.

Keep questioning, etc. and going to docs until the problem with the digestive issues is either resolved or made managable, is my advice.
Sorry you're experiencing this.

hey theresa,
be strong hun! hang in there.
it's quite common to have both RA and Crohns (or UC). enteropathic arthritis is a wee bit different as it will effect the long axis joint (spine, hips) whereas RA exclusively hits the knees, hands, fingers, etc...
however, all inflammatory athritis' can effect ANY set of joints. i was just throwing some enteropathic examples out there.
a definitive crohns DX would be made via a biopsy.
but your doc is right too...the way patients respond to meds leads to a better diagnoses of what's really going on.
did you ever have a colonoscopy & biopsy for IBD?
take care

No, I have an appointment with a GI doc Oct.16 and then we will go from there. This was more through discussion of things. Basically all I said is I can go like a real person for the first time in years, but that was when I was on steroids. It was when I came off of them that everything came back and thought maybe I ought to persue things... Not to mention 3 years ago I was told I had a fistula from a surgeon but he didn't deal with those and I needed to see someone else and never went. Still have that problem too. I guess I had hoped it would just go away. I am a bit shy and unnerved when it comes to certain areas of me that I avoid things if I can but after this last GI bout I had I can't do that anymore. The two things that are good so far with me are my hips and back... everything else is shot.

Not to mention for some reason I have decided to start a real RA flare again just after I said things were doing good I am back to shuffling and just barely walking.... but I just do not want steroid I am already bloated dangit.

Thanks you both for responding.
