Hi,
I read somewhere in another thread about someone having swelling in the armpit area.  Can't remeber who though.  I have been having a lot of pain in the right armpit area for 2 days.  It actually is in the shoulder, armpit, shoulder blade and breast area.  sad This is something new for me.  it is also warm to touch. Is this related to RA do you think?  I hate to run to the Rheumy all the time.  Any advice?
Sorry to be a pain, I seem to be asking a lot of questions instead of answering any. Hopefully i will be able to return the favor soon.

Take care all

Hi Raven,

Just saw your post, hope you are feeling a bit better!  Please don't worry about asking questions...I think I win the award for that one!! I wasn't thie one with the "pit pain"  think that was our dear Yally.  She'll be a long soon, and I'm sure she'll answer you..she's great at this. What you're describing sure sounds like RA stuff to me, though I've never had it in that area...as of yet. It has visited my shoulder, both of them actually, but not the others as of yet...sure my day will come HaHa! My doc is wonderful about letting me know to always call and ask questions if I have any concerns..can you call without going in?

Take care Raven, let us know how you are doing

man this is the pits being associated with pit pain lol!!!!!! sorry i am laughing but i am the pit pain gal lol i guess better than being the pain in the ask me girl.

sorry about that intro but i often look at my issues with humor, it is what helps me deal with it daily.
for me i started with the diagnosis of frozen shoulder. you would definetly know if you had this because just like it says it freezes, no movement in the shoulder area and severe i mean severe pain when it is happening! i dont wish this on my enemy. if i had one?

i am in the "thawing" phase of this and can now move my shoulder and arm somewhat but i notice that if i dont take my meds on time, which i sometimes dont, i have increased inflammation in this area. at times to a point that my arms feel like they are sticking out a bit by my side, go ahead laugh and make the peguin jokes again it is ok! lol
i am not certain if what you are experiencing is the same. i never had pain in my breast area with it.
i am not certain our issues are the same? personally i would definetly call my doc if my body was telling me something new and different. does he or she return calls to questions? mine does...... it could be a simple flare or not? i am not a doctor but yours sounds different than mine does....have you been sick with any infections lately? do you go for regular mamograms?
sorry i dont know maybe erin can have some insight if she finds this thread

do you still have the pain tonight ? keep me posted raven sorry i dont know if i have been any help?
keep me posted yally

Hi YAlinda and thanks,
The underarm pain is still there and is swollen but at least its not in the breast anymore. I am in pain all the time and I don't know whether its the RA or something else. This is going to sound stupid but are you in pain all the time and a flare is just worse pain or does the pain go away and then comeback during a flare. I'm asking because I have very few days without pain. It's in my hands. elbows, shoulders, feet, knees and back and now in my armpits. My next appt with the Rheumy isn't until Oct 24th but not sure if I can wait that long.

Thanks again for all the great support

Hi Raven,

I have had this too! However, I have no idea what causes it? at least I think it is the same thing? If I get a massage say on my right back shoulder blade, I can feel it under the breast bone, arm pit area, the pain sort of radiates? if this makes sense? I'm going to assume you are a lady (sorry serious lack of sleep!) so I have the fibrocystic breasts and when I have swelling, I am not sure if that is what it is or if it is RA caused, but when I read your post, I thought wow someone else has that? I thought I was a nut!

hi raven,
ask away!  that's how we learn!

i dealt with "pit pain" lol for about 3 years really bad.  it was usually just 1 side at a time.  it was severely sore to touch as well.
mine was a lymph node that was swelling.
i do have (and did have at that time) costochondritis so the combo of the 2 made it worse.

do bring it up to your doc at your next visit.

are you running any fevers? can you palpate an actual lump?

as for you pain question...the RA joint pain for me is daily & constant. wake up with it, spend all day with it, loads of pain meds & anti-inflammatories, and go to bed with it.
there are times however that the pain is "lighter"...flares for me cause an inability to walk...needing crutches & IV steroids. and going to the hospital which really is THE PITTS! tongue

hang in there!
do you have Lidoderm patches?  they helped immensely for the pit pain. slap one on & the pain is gone...LOL. (duh...) lol. cornball i am.

Hi Erin
thanks for the info.  There isn't any lump that I can feel but the pain and swelling are still around only in the armpit though.  I'm still working with the Rheumy as to pain management and what works best.  The oxycontin is definitely not lasting as long as it should but I have dilaudid for breakthrough.  Also taking celebrex.  I'm just worried about what all these meds are doing to my liver. From anyone's experience, do the narcotics work effectively with RA?  I don't remember the last time I had a pain free day and now with the kids in dance, travelling team hockey and travelling team basketball as well as school and day to day life I am finding it hard to cope.  I just can't believe my life has changed so quickly and to such an extent.  I need to come up with some kind of game plan to get through this and patience is not one of my stronger virtues lol!!
I'm so tired all the time and I'm not sure if it's the RA or I'm getting depressed, sad I really don't feel depressed though, just really frustrated.  mad   am so glad I found this forum, everyone is wonderful.  as always any suggestions are appreciated.

Take care all,
Raven

hang in there raven, better days will come and hopefully the right combo of drugs that wont kill our livers will be found to give us relief. as far as life take it one day at a time and know when you have to say no. share some responsibilites with car pools with a friend if possible. RA or not we all like a moment to ourselves in our hectic lives. also sooner than later the house will be empty with saddened echos of all the kidos voices so enjoy the chaos while it lasts! lol

Raven,

When you go in for a check up you can always ask for a mamogram w/ultrasound, and this can go along way in helping you to put your mind at ease as to what is going on in there. I was really worried about it and it could be felt by the doctor so I went in and they had a look around, but only found the calcifications.
