Thanks to Enbrel the swelling in my left knee is completely and utterly gone, but it was up and down with swelling for so long (and pain in both knees) that I apparently walked and did everything with my legs in such a way that my inside quadricep muscles on both legs (but especially on the left) have atrophied to the point that my rheumatologist says they only "might" come back with exercise.
Anyone have experience with trying to reverse specific muscle atrophy?

hi leeloo
the muscle atrophy i had was targeted to my lungs...the diaphragm had atrophied. once most of the inflammation got uner control w/ the dmards & biologic meds...that helped.
rebuilding all the muscles too about 2 years.
i took it in my own hands...
i used pilates moves for the abdominal muscles & breathing techniques.
so..."might" is not a "never" might take 2 years, maybe less....
an exercise physiologist was the dude that i consulted with...he worked in a gym i used to go to.
don't give up! let us know how it's going.

ask your doc, or ook up for yourself "LED's".  light eluding diodes? i think.
anyways, my GI doc who is a very smart bean was talking about this friday.  i just read some trials about LED and it spoke of muscle atrophy (NASA and stuff like that).  athletes use it too.
this is actually something i want to consider for treating RA.
best wishes.
