Yes I was dx'd with sjogrens just a couple of weeks ago, do a google search on it
and you'll find a wealth of info, it's basically an autoimmune as it's your body attacking itself
it cause dry eye's for me it was to the point that I got scatches on my corneas no fun there
so I had eye plugs placed in not too terrible painful it's an in office procedure, it also cause dry mouth
and there is a toothepaste that can help dry mouth "biotene" and make sure she
has plenty of water around all the time, for me sjogrens is more of a nusience (sp?) get her
to the eye doctor asap so she can get a prescrition brand eye drop that'll help a lot, I use Restasis
but they are expensive, teir 3 for my prescripts $50.00...but I joined their site and get coupons now..
Good luck to you and like I said search on the Internet "Google" sjogren's is quite common now, so don't panic
it's not the end of the world ailments, but like I said a lot of work and bothersome!!
Soft hugz to you and your mom

I was diagnosed with Sjogren's several years ago. The biggest problem that I'm having now is that my teeth are dying. I had a crown fall out the other day and I'm sure it won't be able to be glued back in. It will probably involve $500.00 for a specialized dentist to cut it out. I had one cut out about 9 mon. ago and was considering an implant but they are $2800.00 for the implant and then you have to have a crown put on top of it so there is another $800.00 or so. I brush my teeth more than anyone I know but because we don/t make enough saliva the plaque sticks to our teeth like glue and you get cavities very easily.

oooffffff... Momma has had it for a few years, and as I'm getting older (cough) I starting to have some of the problems Momma does, is Sjogren's something that is handed down, from one member of a family to another????? I've done some reading and nothing I've seen so far says it is but, its getting a little scarry.  Momma used to be able to walk 2 to 3 miles a day not 5 years ago.  Now she can not if she stands tooo long she will pass out, has something to do with blood not reaching her brain quick enough... they have done test on her heart and its ok, something to do with blood pressure I think is what she said.  But I've been like that for years, if I stand to quick I get really light headed and will almost fall over, and I've not been able to walk a mile without problems for years now.  So, I was just wondering if that might be a possibality (sorry for the spelling)

Yes Sjogrens can be genetic, could be your mother has very low blood pressure and that can make people
pass out so have her thyroid checked asap to rule out the problem there, it's a simple blood test. Sjorgrens
is not making her pass out..........Nurse2 I've had an upper crown fall out twice and re cemeted, go to the
dentist and see he/she might be able to re cemet it don't give up yet, and try biotene (rinse and toothepaste)
at night it helps....
soft hugz to you both......

I also have severe dry mouth which is a sympton of sjogren's. The last couple of years it has  become more pronounced.
I usually have a cup of water with me as the dishroom temps get up to over 100 in the summer. I was dx with peradontal disease. My gums were receding and turning reddish. I started losing a few teeth which had never happened before. I read an herbal ditty about it and figured I would try it. You take a Co Q 10 capsule and brush your teeth with it. I found it was real messy so I got the Co Q in a liquid cap and rub in on my gums and teeth at night and the pink is returning and my gums are filling out.
Good luck and give it a try

Question to Nurse 2. What state/city do you live in that you can get implants and crowns for $2800/$800. I live in Seattle area, and the last 2 implants I had (2009) were $9,000, and the crown-dentist gave me a "plan" that was $7,000 for the abutments and crowns. Most of my implants I have had done in another country, but it would be so much easier, and cost about the same, considering travel costs, if I could get a price such as you were quoted. Oh, yeah, I keep losing my teeth, one by one or two by two, so I expect to lose all of them eventually. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Hi Nanynoo, glad you found us. This is a newish group, and isn't very active. If you don't get some comments here you might go to the Lupus forum. Lots of folks there have Sjogrens' as a secondary disease.

I have dry eyes and sometimes dry ears, but mine can be handled by over-the-counter eye lubricants and occasional cortisone creme in the ears.

Take care
