I am curious to see if any viewers have thyroid problems and bipolar. My first maniac episode came on by not taking my zoloft, which I understand can mask symptoms and by not taking my synthroid. I have read that there is some type of coorelation. I had a full blown episode with psychosis and everything but I also had symptoms of insomnia and extreme intolerance to cold. Just curious= I did read that Lithium is not a good choice for thryroid suffers

Hi Amylou,

I have thyroid problems too. I was told that thyroid problems can aggravate depression (hadn't heard anything about mania). Before we got my thyroid sorted, I had terrible sleepiness and was also very cold. My doc didn't discuss medications which would or wouldn't work well with thyroid meds with me. I had two docs on the case: a gp for my thyroid and my psych handling my brain meds.

Hi Amylou, I also have hypothyroidism and am freezing alot. I will have to go get checked in a couple of weeks with my med dr. to see what's up. I just had alot of surgery and wonder if this could be affecting my cold symptoms. I haven't taken lithium so can't comment on that. Any ideas about the cold stuff. I can't stand it. Thanks, enpointe

i am also hypothyroid. my pdoc said there is also a huge coorelation between butween depression making thyroid worse and the other way around. now that i am on the levyothyroxine my depression is getting a lot better as is my sleeping. i think there is really is a connection between bipolar and the thyroid.

Hi Bunnypucker, thanks for the comments, I am on alot of meds also for different stuff and it is snack time. That was cute. I have to see my doctor anyway for a blood pressure pill refill and will discuss the cold feelings and depression and thyroid. I am a mess right now. Hope you have a good night. enpointe
