I read recently that people who have Bipolar should not drink coffee. even decaf. It stimulates the brain too much...

DARN - I've cut my caffeine intake to 1 cup of coffee a day and 1 coke a day.  I'm not sure that I want to give them up  *sigh*

Caffiene actually impacts your medication.

coffee increases the blood level of clozapine and zyprexa becaue they are metabolized by the same enzyme because the caffiene blocks those receptors making the drug circulate in the body longer. That has not been see in other drug, most speed up the excretion time leading theoretically to a need for a higher dose, because that coffee just lower the the dose of the pill you just took.

I actually can't believe it, but I stopped drinking caffeine completely about 2 months ago. This is my 3rd attempt so I hope it will be a permanent thing. My pdoc told me that I needed to cut down, but I just stopped drinking caffeine completely. I think it is a positive change in my life and I have been awake without it than with it. How strange.

I've cut my coffee down a lot.  I may have one or two a week now.  And I do think it was a good thing for me to do.  Coffee definitely increased my anxiety and just generally made my moods much worse.

But I can't give up my tea...and I don't drink herbal, just orange pekoe--it's my favourite thing :-)

All you unlucky folks out there. I drink two cupds a day with my hal I drink it since Parkinson'ddol (it makes it more effecyive - sorry you're not taking now! I also like to drink coffee becuase there is some proof that it lowers the ris of Parkinsons. MY grandpa died of P arkinsons, but it isn't jusr that. He was wlso severely epressed his whole life. The only anti-depressant he could take Is also the onlt antidepressant I can tolerate. We both took/take 120mg of Parnate. The Highest the FDA will allow a pharmasist and psychaitrist to fill. So I'll drink my coffee w/him.
