Just a note, My husband works as an underwriter. Basically when a company or for drug companies a product arm of a company needs insurance- and drugs cannot be sold w.out insurance-they may be very high risk and have to go to special pool where an insurance company has to review them and offer them a some sort of plan by law. (Flood insurance works like this too although the pool is a little different.) From here most drugs are overpriced and then are insured by Lyods of London, a company that insures anything regardless of what you may think about gambling they are very good. When lamictal went through this process it bumped out of my husband's company because of how unsafe it was long term and that studies were picking up on things that may leave the drug in court. As an underwriter, he can ask for any information about the drug and marketing. That's when the science communtiy was learning how damaging it is for the fetus. When I first tried it in six years ago, I got sick. My current doctor doesn't use it unless old and new mood stabilizers have all been tried. It is also not good for mania, and best for only Bipolar 2 patitients.

Drug interactions: tegretol, birth control pills (change lamictal levels,) barbiturates, & depakote

Now just becuae they shouldn't be combined it doesn't mean they can't be; in fact, many times they are - although because they are not "safe" your insurance might not cover one or both of them or drop your if they find out what you are doing.

I just had to vent about lamictal today. Who knows what I will vent about tommorow. After being on so many drugs, I have learned lot and really hate knowing that the only way I can live today is take a leap towards an early death or to be held in restraints until I die. Somethimes it hurts my husband more and it brings him to tears knowing my brain and body must be poisoned in order to bring me out of the trees and shadows of the world I truly come from just to have a bit of of time to dance before my fantasy of dreams slip away again.

qp,

I think they said that Lamictal should not be mixed with Depakote and Tegretol is because all three are anti-epileptic meds. These are not the only drugs in that type that should not be mixed with each other.

Barbiturates are tricky drugs in themselves, so I can see why they would have that label.

The birth control issue, that tends to affect a lot of medications on the market. I am on Tegretol and that is one of the things that is mentioned on my leaflet.
