I'm gonna be a little spotty on the board.  I'll still check everyday, delete spam and welcome the new people, but I may not reply to threads right away.  I'll do my best.  I'll be back in full force next Wednesday.

I'm back. Hope you kids behaved while I was out. (I'm just teasing.) I had a lovely mini-break in St. Louis doing some of our favorite things with my family: going to the botanical garden and the zoo, eating out, having some quiet time with my dh (we saw Indiana Jones together!) My dh is from there and we still have friends there too, so its always nice to go back for a visit. The only problem is that I don't do well negotiating in large groups of people. When 4 people are talking and expressing their opinions, I'll just shut up and let them decide (such as "Where should we go for dinner?"). This drives hubby nuts because he's afraid I'm "withdrawing" into myself and getting depressed. I also tend to get "tired" of being away from home and being "on" for people all the time, so I have to be very conscious to take naps and nourish my need for alone-time when I'm traveling. Luckily my in-laws know me and know what's up well enough that they encourage me to take care of myself first. They are really helpful with my daughter, and try to take good care of me too. Did I mention we do a lot of shopping as well? We do. I got 2 pairs of shoes! Count em!

In any case, it's good to be back and I'll do my best to catch up lickety split.

serafina,

where in st. l were you? did you know that the botanical gardens were once called "shaw's gardens" after the family that donated them to the city? when i was in hs i did my "research" into leaves and trees at shaw's gardens because they had all of the trees labeled. of course i found a leaf from tree that only grows in outer Mongolia, so i got caught. no one else did. lol

i haven't been to the st l zoo since the eisenhower administration! how exciting. i remember it was always a fun place to go. did you get to the art museum while you were in the area? and did you do the arch? they started building it about the time i left.

as you guessed, i'm originally from st l. until i was 10, we lived in n.st. l, near natural bridge road, and after that we lived in university city. i left st l at 18. it's a good place to be from. as far from as possible. 1200 miles is about right. only failed in my life once, and that was in that god-forsaken berg. not it's fault, but it is a trigger for me. i have some cousins ands one aunt still alive there. i doubt, though, if i'll ever get back. so, on your next trip, tell the place that i forgive it my failure. lol
