Hey, i've just been diagnosed as having hyper-rapid bipolar. And, well, i have idea how to handle it, well, right now i can, it's amazing because everything is so colourful. It's ten past three and theres no way i can sleep. But anyway, any advice on, well, getting myself under some semblance of control? As i said, at the moment it doesn't matter at all, but later on today I'll probably spin wildly into the dark, placid waters of the comedown. Which, obviously, i don't really like. Then again, the other night i was even more hyperactive then i am now, and managed to work myself into such a state that i was attacking myself purely because it seemed a good idea at the time. So yeah, advice on how to cope and stay under control and, well, live with it would be helpful. Or not, it's up to you really.

Oh yeah, I'm nineteen, and have been living with Attention Deficit Disorder for as long as i can remember, but i've heard thats quite common in people with bipolar, so  i guess that pretty much irrelevant. Ah well.

Hi Warped_Reality,

Welcome to HealingWell and to our board. Based on the difference between the time you stated and the time it says you posted, am I right in guessing you're in Europe? Either way, welcome.

What's your status with medical professionals? Are you seeing a psychiatrist? Do you have a therapist? Do you take medications? You said you've just been diagnosed -- who diagnosed you and what did they prescribe?

As to controlling your cycling, try stabilizing yourself by finding an activity which will let off a little steam now while you're so keyed up but will not exhaust you later when you crash. Do you have any kind of artistic outlet? Painting? Writing? How about writing letters to friends? I know it's the middle of the night for you, so you can't really go out for a walk, but I always find that going outside helps me feel less desperate and caged in.

I hope this helps a little...

Yes, i'm in England. It was the councillor i was seeing for depression. When she found out i "switch" (for lack of a better word) between the depression and being completely out of control on a high she gave me the verdict. I'm on Mirtrazapine but as thats an anti-depressant i'm not sure i'll be staying on it much longer. And yes, i write and play music and do a fair bit of art. Thanks for the help.

Well your next step is to a psychiatrist, if you haven't got that lined up yet. Anti-depressants can actually make life worse for bipolar patients, so don't wait. You want to get on something that will actually help you and not aggravate your condition.

Okay, i'll sort that out pretty sharpish. And now you've mentioned it my mood swings have become a lot more extreme since i've been on the drug. Thanks, I'll go talk it over with the local surgery about getting an appointment with a psychiatrist. Cheers for all the help, it's very much appreciated, by me and my *brand new today* girlfriend. Well, she hasn't been reading this, but if she had she'd no doubt be appreciative as well. So yeah, thanks.

Hi Missyc,

I'm going to move your post to a new thread all it's own. (We like new people to get their own place to introduce themselves and not get lost on other people's threads.) Look for it on the main page and I'll respond to it there.
