I saw my pdoc yesterday and he said Lexapro is the strongest AD there is. He added Deplin, a new medication that works on the folic acid or folate in your brain, which one needs to convert or make serotonin, I'm not sure of the mechanics of it. It is supposed to help one's ADs work more effectively. The literature says 70% of depressed individuals don't have or make enough folate and it would take 66 regular folic acid tablets a day to give the brain enough folate to convert ADs effectively. I don't know if the literature is correct. I also don't know if my insurance will pay for this new medication but he gave me a 5 weeks supply of samples. His office sure seems to have plenty of samples of all kinds of medications to share. That's lucky for me.
