I saw my pdoc today. I was very anxious because I suffer terribly from Fibromyalgia and last visit he'd indicated he would be looking hard at my meds. I need the pain meds. I know there is a lot of controversy about the validity of Fibromyalgia, in canada, anyway, and a lot of Doctors scoff at it, but I was able to reason with the doc, we reached a working compromise. i am very pleased with the results from getting the Zoloft on board. For the mornings anyway, I feel much better after it gets into my system.

My question about Topamax. The doc seemed to be promoting it. He seemed to be presenting it as a mood stabilizer. Is that right/ Does anyone take it and how does it work for them. I'm afraid of newer drugs and off-label uses.

Hi tyno3,

Don't worry. I take topomax as a mood stabilizer. I wouldn't say it's been super-effective; it works okay. But it's been harmless too. I did have the initial weight loss plug, but that went away. The other slightly annoying side effect is that it made soda taste funny. But otherwise, it's been fine.

I hope it works okay for you too.

I'm glad the appointment went well and you stuck to your guns. Yay you!

Thanks Serafena: I didn't take the prescription, yet. i wanted to find out the side-effects. Also, juggling the meds. I like to make 1 change, follow it through for a couple of months, then perhaps another. That way if things get really screwed up it's easier to sort out. Right now, as I mentioned I am noticing a big improvement in my mood from the zoloft. But, I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. I noticed a bit last week, I was kind of cranky with my Dad whom I care for. It's no wonder. The other sibs have totally abandoned us and I have to care for him 24/7/365. Sometimes I get short tempered. We're also in the midst of financial troubles. My stepmother has gone to a nursing home, took all her check, left all the bills, and the bank is getting nasty.Sometimes it's hard to sort real life problems from effects of BiPolar disorder, then add a meds cocktail and one has quite a mix.
