Mi fiance has severe depressive episodes and this last one landed him in the hospital. He's had excellent treatment for a while now, but our pdoc has told us time and again that bipolar depression is the hardest to treat. His current cocktail consists of lithium, lamictal (we love lamictal), and lexapro (an activator, so to speak). This has worked wonders for him. I know that when he was his most depressed, he would have welcomed his mania back with open arms.
Please just try to be patient, it will get better. It will. I"m sorry you're feeling like this now b/c I know it is physically and mentally incapaciting.
Are you on an antidepressant too, in addition to the Lamictal? My pdoc says I have to be on an AD as well as the Lamictal.
Thank you all for your support. It is much appreciated, especially now. So notice how the answer was "antidepressants" to be involved in my meds cocktail. I could not agree more. It seems that each time we take that part out of my combo, the depression episodes are back. I just think it's interesting because this proves my point. Mood stabilizers are not what heals the depressive symptoms, antidepressants are. And technically we as bipolar patients are not supposed to use antidepressants for treatment because it causes mania/hypomanica/and/or cycling.
It just seems so frustrating and yet interesting to me.
Anyway, I sould be seeing my pdoc Monday morning. And I think I'm looking into Lexapro (thanks for the suggestion Diskus) but I would like to know about wieght gain with this drug. Any knowledge would be great...
Thinking of all of you,
PS-Meds I am on now are listed below, execpt the Lamical is now 275mg/day.
