Good Thursday Morning Everyone,

Just wanted to see if we had any good/bad experiences with Risperdal.  Nothing else has seemed to work for me and this drug, so far, appears to be a miracle for me.  I have been on atleast 10 mood stabilizers and had to discontinue for various side effect reasons.  I was also taking them during a time when I would not accept my diagnosis.  This may have had something to do with it, who knows.

Anywho, just wanted to see if anyone out there had any positive comments about this med.

Big Hugs to All

I have been taking Risperdal for over a year. I threw it out of the window once because I felt sedated all the time, but now my psychiatrist has reduced my dose and I am doing well on it. I am also taking Tegretol and Haloperidol along with it and the combination seems to be working.

Yeah, my Risperdal at a very low dose was good for a few days, then I started feeling really bad. Went back to PDoc, he adjusted the dosage and two days later I feel well and loving life! I hope I have found the right combo this time! I am ready for some relief, 2008 has not been that great but I am hoping that 2009 will be oh so fine. hahahahahaha

Thanks for listening,

mommy.michele,

What does of Risperdal are you on, if you do not mind me asking. My PDoc started me at 1 mg, not I am on 2 mg and doing well, but just have this feeling that is still may be too low. I will know in a few days.

has anyone lost hair while on risperdal? a freind of mine is losing alot of hair and doesnt know what to do.....oh, she stopped taking it and her hair is still falling out. Maybe she needs to cleanse the drug completely out of her system? Has anyone done that? If so, please let me know how you did it ? thank you very much

Harry,

I started this thread and I am already off Risperdal.  It worked like a charm for about 1-2 weeks and side effect city set in.  My hair did not fall out but it became very dry looking and dull and it was always sleek and shiny.  Your friend needs to call their Dr. but what I did was go to the natural health food/herb store in my area and got some red clover blood purifier.  It helps rid toxins from your body and helps move out lingering pharmaceuticals.  It really helped me feel better.  I do not take any BP drugs now except for an occasional Xanax for anxiety.  I went herbal and they are milder and slower working but have no side effects and your body feels so healthy.  I started exercising and cut out almost all caffeine and sugar and my mood swings are very mild compared to what they once were.  I really believe diet and exercise and a very positive attitude go a very long way in controlling this dis-ease.  Did you know that you can get natural lithium in the health food store?  There alot of herbs that are classified as "nervines" and they really help calm you down.

Well, good luck to your friend, I hope their hair grows back, it probably will.  Tell them to try massaging grape seed oil into their scalp and see if that stimulates new growth.  It is great for body massages too!  Relax, relax, relax..............................

Good Morning Harry,

I use the brand "Planetary Herbals."  They have their own website and have a very good reputation for pure herbal formulas.  It is called "Red Clover Cleanser" and is actually a combination of herbs. The best herbal rememdies are usually a combination of herbs and not just a single one. The directions suggest 2 tablets between meals twice a day but be careful!  This is strong medicine and I would start it on the week-end or when you were going to be home a day or two because it really cleans all the impurities out of your system and you will "potty" alot.  Also, the herbalist I went to suggested taking it like for one week a month.  The proprietary blend is 1.6 g.  I would find a well established herb store and talk with someone there.  You can also type in any herb name on your web browser and all kinds of information will come up.  I got very interested in the use of herbs after I failed to do well on the 10th or 11th mood stabailizer I was put on.  I just cannot tolerate pharmeceuticals at all.  I have done alot of research on this subject and there is alot of conflicting information out there, you really have to weed through it and do some cross referencing.  Please check with your Doc. or a knowledgable person about herbs, but for me, I feel much better and healthier than when on pscy meds., more in control and maybe it is because I "want" them to work that they do but so what, even if I just believe it is working (placebo affect), I feel better off than with meds that give you diabetes, cause weight gain, lethargy, clouded thinking, etc.  I currently take 2 St. John's Wort dailey, 3 lithium orotate dailey, Super B complex vitamins and if I cannot sleep I take 3 Valerian Root about an hour before bed and of course, one week a month I take the Red Clover cleanser.  Sorry to "type" your ear off, ha ha ha ha ha.  Good luck and let me know how it goes! turn

Well, herbs did not work, imagine that! Back on Risperdal but at a correct dosage and doing well as I have tried to exercise some patients this time before flushing the meds. Oh yes, I done that before, read my thread? I think the hardest part of BP is getting meds right, once that happens, everything else seems to start to fall back in place, slowly though. Can you tell I am a very manic person? Well good luck to all that are going through med issues.

BP Gemini;

Hey, my wife is taking rispredol at what seems like a pretty high dosage compared to what I have read, but it is really helping her. The only side effets she has is that she has to sleep quite a bit, and that it has increased her appitite. My 6 year old son is also on rispredol, his pediatrician put him on it a couple of years ago to help with his Autism. he is on a low dosage of it & it has worked wonders for him. He would go days on 1 or 2 hours sleep a night & would not settle down or even try to go to sleep. Since he started on the med, bedtime is no problem at all and we havn't noticed any side effects with him at all. The doc told us that he had several parents of autistic children that would try to lynch him if he took away their risperdol, now we are part of that group.  Hopefully your doc will get your dosage right & it will give you the same positive results that a lot of others have had with it.

Best wishes,
Rocket

Thanks for the response,

I take 2 mg at bedtime and that is working out A-OK!  I was on 3 mg a day, 2 at night and one split up suring the day but that was no good.  I quit taking meds and tried to go herbal again, you think I would figure out by now that that way is not going to work for me.  so for about a week I have been on the 2 mg and doing very well.  I did gain about 7 pounds right after I got on risperdal but have leveled off now and I am OK with that as long as it is working.  I seem to have a little trouble falling asleep but once I get to sleep I sleep very well.  I hope this continues!

Thanks again, great day to you and your
