Hello, this is my first post.  I have Bi Polar disorder and was diagnosed about two years ago.  I was on 100 mg of Lamictal and it wasn't doing anything for me.  My doctor brought it up to 200 mg.  It did a great deal for my mood.  I felt good and enjoyed doing things again.  I wasn't hitting the lows I was before.  I also take 10 mg of lexapro for depression.  The only problem with taking the 200 mg, since I have had troubles sleeping and my tourettes is really bad(facial ticks and little things like that).  Is lamictal a stimulant.  I really don't know anything about it.  Because a stimulant like coffee or caffeine make my ticks very bad and it is very annoying.  Any help would be appreciated.  I don't know anybody else with bipolar and tourettes so maybe there aren't many of us out there but we'll see.  Thanks in advance.

Hi Hawkeye,

Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar forum. You have a really interesting question. I don't think lamictal is a stimulant, but I really don't know. I would definitely ask your doctor. You're absolutely right that you have a pretty unique situation. I'm sure it must be really frustrating at times. You don't even need to make an appointment with your doc -- just give him/her a call.

Sorry I can't be more help.

I am on 200mg of the Lamictal and have no adverse side effects.  I would talk to your doctor about that.
