I am feeling extremely irritable and I am snapping at everyone. My parents think I am not taking my medication but I have been taking it every single day. I log on to this forum and then take my meds (it is a ritual). Is it normal to feel cranky when hypomanic? Can it be cured by medication or will I need to go for counseling? There are no counselors where I live so I will have to find someone online. I have this awful desire to destroy something or to lash out at someone. Does anyone else feel this way? My dog has been spanked for barking at strangers, my maid has been yelled at for not following my instructions precisely and my parents have heard many pieces of my mind. When I am depressed, I take a lot of crap because I have a low sense of self-worth and during this phase, I feel like it is the time to avenge myself. Doesn't help that everyone in my family has psychological issues and there is a lot of abuse that goes around. Doesn't help that job hunting has been difficult for me and my parents refuse to help (in this part of the world, 90% of the people get their jobs through connections) because they are scared I might throw a tantrum at work and embarrass them. Anyway, will stop ranting now.

Hi Shebsy! Sorry you're having a bad time! I get very irritable and angry a lot of the time and often want to smash things! Although I never get as far as smashing things up!

I'm very irritable and snappy at the moment and have no patience at all! My family are driving me mad and I'd quite happily lock them all in a cupboard and leave them there all day! LOL!

Try not to see this as a way to avenge yourself! I know its hard when youre feeling so angry with the world.  The best thing to do is to come on here and vent that way and we'll try and help any way we can!  Why don'y you go for a walk for 20mins to clear your head and help you relax? Its surprising how much good that can do!

Remember that you're not alone!

Dear Greg,

I have been running on the treadmill and going for walks at the beach. Helps momentarily. It's hard not to have all these crazy feelings during hypomania. But I have to admit, it feels a million times better than depression.

Risperdal made me feel angry & violent and wanting to smash things, when the dose was too high.  Had to come off of it all together because of severe, unbearable side effects.  Now I just take my Xanax and really, since I got that med out of my system, I really feel pretty good.  God only knows how long that will last but I am going to enjoy it while I have it!  New Dr appt on the 10th.  I just do not understand why I am unable to tolerate any BP meds.  There are not many left that I have not tried, so it will be interesting to see what new PDoc recommends.

Wasn't the Superbowl great!  I Love the Steelers!

My Steelers scored the winning touch down in the last 35 seconds of the game!  It was great!  How are you doing with your Lithium?  I hope it works wells for you.  If I cannot take psych drugs then I am not sure where to go with this next.  I've been the herbal route and they do help but they are so mild that in really bad times they are ineffective.  Oh well...........

Have a great day Greg

Shebsy,

You're probably having a patch of hypomania, just as you suspect. I'd give your doc a call about adjusting your meds. Yeah, it's definitely better than being depressed, but it's no fun either, that's for sure.
