I've been having major anxiety and irritabilty the last few weeks (I suspect due to getting used to the new meds and should be temporary last time this happened witha  drug change and when I got to a certain dose I was fine). My psych. had given me Vespril but it hasn't done anything. I got so agitated last week that I did SI and the other day I found a better outlet for it and cleaned my friend's house....until 4 am.

I had another bad irritable episode yesterday and my mom told me to call the Dr..so I did. Now the office I go to have several Psych on staff and I don't see just one of them I've gotten 3 so far. They have one of them call me back last night. Well he DID call but he DID NOT look at my file. I explained to him what was going on, about my axiety the SI episode,  what meds I was taking, everything. He said I should go to the emergency room. I told him...."Why? I did this 4 days ago its healing fine." I mean...if i were bleeding or did something deep sure, I'd have gone already. I was very quickly getting into another episode of irritation and gave the phone over to my mom. She relayed everything to me....he told her to have me stop taking my wellbutrin!!!  We both were like....WHY? ITS WORKING.

Why the heck would he want to take me....bipolar II with major depression off my antidepressants completly. I am so furious, he didn't even have my file...didn't even look at it. If he had he'd see my horrible history of depression and mood swings, history of SI, and that I'm happy with my meds. I mean seriously, why would you call back a patient who's message was "The anxiety stuff isn't working but everything else is" He finally did listen to us after 10 minutes of arguing (I'm getting a script for Buspar later today). But still......eeerrrrggg!

OK I'm done....I feel better.

I'm sorry, that sounds really annoying! The Buspar should help. That's what my doc was going to give me when the anxiety was rising for me as well. Good luck!

The last time I called my Dr. it was that i was getting to where I couldnt breath, I was breaking out in hives, very nervous, he acted very agitated that I called in the first place when after every visit he sais if you need anything give me a call but doesnt mean it. anyway he said all I can tell you is to go see a therapist, your anti anxiety meds are at the highest dos and I dont think we need to change anything.. That just reallly made me feel like man you really care hahaha. my old dr who i miss so much would have worked me in that day even if he had to stay late and that psyciatrist was more than that, he would give me talk therapy, his undivided attention and great feedback. With that Dr, I was in remission for two years. This Dr. is strictly med check Dr and cares less. It is frustrating out there but there are great Drs out there too, I guess we just have to change every once in a while mabey. I am on the verge of a mental breakdown right now but am scared to call him. That he may dismiss it and say that I need to see my therapist on a regular basis. I take 7 meds for bipolar, I think he could put me inpatient and change a few things and moniter me at least. I take so much klonipin for anxiety but yet I have terrible anxiety all of the time. Do some of you think I should change Drs again? i have to change every time i move, but i am really fed up with him. please help

nancyjay,

I think if you are unhappy with your doc, than you should definitely consider looking for another one. We rely too heavily on our doctors to put up with ones which aren't responsive or reliable enough. But remember, they work for you. If you're not getting what you need, be a little more pushy. You're not feeling well, call your doctor! Don't be afraid. It's his job to help you. You're probably reading too much into his response anyway. 7 meds is a lot. I take 5 and that's a lot. We put up with a lot of nonsense, don't we? :-)

I agree if you're having problems with your Dr try to find another one that would be more helpful and listen to you. I hate that half the time they just don't listen. We know that we don't feel well....we know if meds are or are not working, why is it always a fight to get something else that just might work. Or they ignore the signs.

I was on Paxil for 9 years and still having depressive episodes, they would only up the dose (I was taking up to 50mg a day at one point); the new doctors I'm seeing have switched me to wellbutrin and so far that is working very well I'm very happy with it (I'm focused and energetic and last week I realized I was kinda happy...just out of the blue with no stimulus I was happy; I've NEVER EVER felt that for as long as I can remember).

I'm stuck with the office I have because its county assistance since I have no insurance and not currently working (SSID is still pending). They have switched me to their long term office which I'll be going to next month and see other Doctors there, so hopefuly that will be a little better. I did get the scrip for Buspar and it does seem to work pretty good, didn't help me sleep but did calm me down...and for some reason made me a bit hungry.
