Husband of bp wife here...

After years of fighting it, she's finally relaxing a bit and it looks like in-patient treatment may be an option. She wants to locate something that focuses on meds and there seem to be a couple of good programs around. We have to go in and get her doc to OK it (he probably will), then go check out some options.

What kind of experience is she in for?

Hi Jondoe,

Well, depending on the program, she's really probably in for a lot of therapy. That's primarily what hospitalization is all about. The docs and nurses monitor the meds and your health, and during the day, you generally spend most of your time in group therapy sessions. This is really good. Most people really benefit from this.

I hope she goes for it. It can really do some good.

My husband is bipolar and has been hospitalized twice and is threatening to have to be hospitalized again soon.  Spring time is always bad for him and the most likely time to have to go into the hospital.

However, there, he not only gets a lot of therapy, but also gets to get his medication tweeked in an environment that is safe.  In additon, they have craft classes and help the patients find a way to help themselves relax and deal a little bit better with the tough moments.

Your wife should definately do it.
