weaned off of lamictal

I have been on 200mg. of lamictal for 2 yrs. I have recently weaned off slowly.I am still having anxiety and social phobia and manic episodes..I feel worse being off it for 2 weeks now..I was drinking alcohol when I was on it..and still drink now I am off it..I get rages when I drink and depressiion and bad social phobia..can anyone help suggestions etc. Thanks crazy sam..

Hi crazy sam,

Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar board.

I hate to say it, but I'm not surprised you're still experiencing symptoms if you didn't replace the lamictal with something else. Bipolar doesn't go away. It's a chronic illness. Unmedicated, it only gets worse, not better. And if you're drinking, that's only going to make it even more complicated.

Why did you get off the lamictal? Were you having a bad reaction? Was it not working anymore?

You need to cut back on your drinking (obviously) and see your pdoc. He/she needs to get you back on the lamictal or something comparable. I know it is no fun to be stuck taking medication for the rest of our lives, but the alternative is chaos and constant pain. No one wants that.
