This is my introductory post. My partner is bipolar. I started reading this board 2 months ago when we were having a very hard time and I felt really alone. I read all of the past posts and it helped me A LOT. I developed a new understanding for the disease and the effects it can have on others.

I realised that I'm not alone and, in fact, I have it a lot easier than many BP spouses. My partner is willing to do whatever it takes to be well. She takes all her meds, she sees her pdoc twice monthly and her therapist 1-2times a week. She even started getting ECT (which, by the way is totally awesome and saved her life and our relationship). I told her about this forum and that I was giving her the "BP of the year award" for being so compliant and trying so hard.

I stopped reading the posts once we started doing better (of course, in hind sight, I think she was manic so things seemed better) and now she's depressed again and I'm alone, again. So, here I am.  I hope to be a more consistent participant and I want to thank all of the other spouses/partners/significant others for all of their posts. Peace.

Hi docmitch,

Welcome to the board! Thanks for coming out of lurk-dom and joining us. It's nice to have you.

It's great that your wife is so willing to work to control her bp. It's not easy. I'm the same way -- it takes a lot of effort, but the result is worth it. I'm sorry you're feeling alone again though while she's depressed. I imagine that's very hard. Definitely get online and talk it out with us.

Good luck,
serafena
