Hello... I live in Pennsylvania and have been looking for treatment center for bipolar/depression. I found one in the Smokey Mountains but could not believe the price... minimum stay 30 days at $35,000 and they recommend a 90 day stay. I am unable to work at this time and simply have no way to pay for such a thing. Does anyone have any suggestions for any treatment centers that might be more reasonably priced? I would greatly appreciate any information you could share! Thank you.

Hi bluestbird:

Welcome to Healingwell.  I'm sure you'll find the support you're looking for around here.

I read your other post and was just curious...are you still in contact with your pdoc?  Are you on any medications?  How about therapy?

I was involved in an outpatient group program from my hospital when they discharged me.  On another occassion I didn't have to be hospitalized but my pdoc felt that I would benefit from going to it again.

Maybe you can find out if a hospital near you is affiliated with something like that.  Approach the question to your pdoc or therapist for leads.

In the meantime, when I was despressed I found it helpful to put one thing on the calendar, each day that I would focus on doing...no matter how small it was!  For instance, go outside and do a little weeding or water the grass.  Or...clean out a closet or get out to the store to pick up only one item and then back home.

Do that for a while until you can add 2 things to a list.    Every little things helps.  Maybe you can work up to inviting a friend over for just a cup of coffee or tea or to watch a movie together?

Maybe you could write some affirmations about yourself or things to look forward to and tape them to your refrigerator to look at during the week that would help motivate you.

I loved spending times in book stores or just walking around the mall and taking my time looking at things that I normally wouldn't spend time looking at.  How nice when you find something special that you want to buy...and you weren't even looking for it. wink

Good Luck.  Keep us posted and let us know what happens.  blush

Thank you for the email... I am on two antidepressants and a mood stabilizer. I can't seem to to get out of this depression that I am stuck in though. My health insurance will not cover mental health but I do see a pdoc. She has been trying various things since my most recent hospitalization for mania two years ago. My mood seems to be stabilized but extremely depressed.

Hi bluestbird,

I'm sorry to hear about your health insurance.  I'm going through my own battles with insurance coverage.  smhair

When was the last time you saw your pdoc?  If it's been a while, you may want to boost your appt. up.

I'm not a pdoc, (just to be clear...hee-hee) but I wonder if a suggestion of removing one of your antideppressants is an option?

Keep us posted.
