Hello, I have been having problems in the last year or so, and have been told once that i have bipolar disorder, i never went back to  that doctor, they were always rude and it was hard for me to go in the first place, and they made me feel afull. These past two months, have been really bad for me, and its putting a toll on myself, and my family. I have decided to find another doctor, and hopefully get some help. My mother, aunt, and grandmother all on the same side have bipolar disorder, and sever depression. which I guess fall hand in hand sometimes. I have scedualed an appt, and its this coming wensday, They are a treatment clinic, and said I will be there for two hours, for testing, I was just curious for if anyone has had certin tests done, or whatnot, and also looking for support, I am a 20 year old female, and it is just hard, which im sure many of you understand. just trying to find some people I can talk to , and vent I guess. Thanks all.

Hi Catherinebelle,

Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar board. I'm sorry you had such a terrible first exposure to psychiatry. I really hope your next doctor will be more compassionate. Just like regular doctors, psychiatrists are good and bad, and you have to try a few until you find one you like. I hope the clinic treats you well.

If your testing is anything like mine was, it's all verbal. There is no physical test for bipolar. And it's not really testing, it's more like an intense medical history session. Lots of questions about physical symptoms, family history, your background, etc. So hopefully that puts your mind at ease a bit.

I really hope you like it here. Please keep us up to date on what happens with your session and how you're feeling. It is helpful to have people you can talk to.

Welcome,
serafena
