I am a bipolar II  I have a really hard time keeping jobs. I recently was put on Lithium Carbonate. I start it tonight at dinner. Anyone else on this meds? Is it good ? Does it help? Any cons?   I am on 300 mg and i take that for 3 days then  after that i take 600mg ...and in 10 days i go to get blood work done and a EKG.  This meds must be serious stuff ...
I guess i am also still tryin to learn to control my Anger part i just get so irritable any suggestions?  Im so easily irritated and i cant hold down a steady job and i feel like everything is just drowning me. I know this is taking a toll on my husband and my 2 small children. I am really tryin but some days i just cant.
Some nice sound  advice would be great. I would also feel more at ease.

hello waterlilly,

Welcome to HealingWell and the Bipolar forum, I am glad that you found us.

I was on Lithium for about 3 years in the past, and it was a great med for my moods; but it can have a lot of side effects. One major thing I can tell you is that it is important to drink plenty of water. I would suggest no less than 6-8cups a day, but remember not to over do it. This is especially important in warmer weather.

Other than that, meds react differently from person to person so you may not get the same side effect as the next person who takes it. All I can tell you is that the higher the dose the greater risk of side effects, but you should bring all your concerns up with your pdoc when you see them next. I didn't really have severe side effects that I know of, just minor ones that were really bothersome.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Hi waterlilly8787,

Welcome! I was on lithium until yesterday, actually. It worked great for my moods buy I put on some weight, and retained a lot of water. Like Olivia says, drink a bunch of liquids and you'll be fine.
