Sorry for the SOS but I have an appt in the morning or it was wait until January.

I am looking to start Lamictal for bpII and stop 300 mg of Topomax which I fear is making me cloudy in my thinking - which I can no longer have. I also take 200 mg of zoloft and clonepin for anxiety (.5 at night) and only extra if I can't get the racing thoughts to slow down.

Any luck with lamictal?

Hi AGirlNamedMaria:

Welcome to HealingWell and the bipolar board.

Lots of luck with Lamictal around here. But discuss it with your doctor, obviously. You wouldn't want to try something that isn't right for you. If he/she isn't keen on it, be sure to ask why.

Good luck with your appointment. Let us know how it goes.

Hi A girl named Maria,

I had good luck with lamictal too for a long time.

Just be totally honest with your doctor and let him know what you would like to try and why.  Have honest discussion. It's a two way street.  There are plenty of medication options out there, so if one isn't working for you there are others for  your pdoc to try.

Wishing you wellness! blush

Lamictal works great for lots of people, I just wasn't one of them.  I have BP1 and was recently started on Saphris which is brand spanking new.  Other than a few adjustments at start-up, it is working well for me.

Good luck with your appointment, glad you did not have to wait until January! turn

Thank you all for the welcome and for the input.

I did go to the appointment and I start Lamictal tomorrow and stay on Topomax for 4 weeks at the same dosage to watch for the lamictal rash.  I think Topomax while a good mood stabalizer for me has been making me very cloudy/slow mentally.    The doctor agrees.  I've just entered a very demanding educational program and I can't afford to be cloudy or slow.  nono (I just love that emoticon and wanted an excuse to use it!) I am bpII so this may work.

So this is the first time I've changed my meds in a long time and I'm coming up on a 3 week break to do the start and am changing my schedule so I am not taking on courses that are too challenging (meaning difficult for me conceptually) while this change is in process.

I think this is all a good plan.  Thank you all so much for your help and replies to my SOS.

Maria

Good luck with the Lamictal! That was the first med I tried and I'm apparently allergic (not the rash-it made me suicidal, but I think that's pretty rare and it hit within 48 hours). I'm on Saphris now.

Hi Maria,

I'm glad that your pdoc is working with you and I really hope your new  meds work out well for you.

I think it's great that your able to start them on your break from school so that you can get adjusted to it.

Best of luck. ~Happy Holidays~
