Hi my name is Mychal and I really do want to enjoy life. I was diagnosed eith bi polar 2 years ago but have only been on bi polar meds for a year. I am on Lithium twice a day and Paxil. I absolutely hate taking meds and am not even sure that their working to my full benefit. They suck! I hate them and I think that they make people zombies! I know that they can work but I have yet to be fully convinced that they are working for me. I was in the hospital 10 times this year because the meds do not work and they keep telling me I need them. Many doctors are complete idiots and have no concept of what the meds are actually doing to your brain or mind whatever! I just want to be mned free or have a medication work for me..Can anyone relate..I have had it!

Hi Mychal,

Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar board. You've been in the hospital that many times and you still haven't found any meds that work for you?!? I'm so sorry! How awful! What have you tried thus far? Is your psych open to trying other things? When the meds work -- and truly, they can -- you won't be perfectly even, but your moods won't swing so fast or far, and you won't be a zombie either. If you're still swinging dramatically, or if you feel like a zombie, then something isn't right and your doc should adjust your dosage or try something else.

Med-free isn't often an option for bipolar disorder management. There are lots of people who try it, but they usually end up on meds. Everyone here will doubtlessly agree with you that having to be on meds for the rest of our lives is cruel, but for most people, that's the only way to get our lives back.

I'm glad you found us. Hang in there, and let us know how you're doing.

I can relate.  I have been on alot of meds and only recently found one I can tolerate, still playing with dosage though.  I wish I could go to the health food store and find an herb or a vitamin or something that would help, but I have been that route before and I still end up back on meds.  It does suck (oops, can I say that), it does stink!

Hopefully you will start feeling better soon.
