I just got home from a first Bipolar Support Group meeting and I am so STOKED!
I wish i'd gone sooner...
Everyone was supportive, telling their story, asking questions... definitely...

Does anyone else go to real life support groups?
What have your experiences been?

Hi GreenTea,

Glad to hear that your first meeting went well.  I went to a support group a few years ago through the one of the hospitals and it saved my life! It truly made all the difference! This forum is excellent for support and the real "in person" groups are just as great! It drastically changed the way I dealt with my illness. Before the group I just let my illness take control. With the group I learned the coping skills and how to use them in my life. I know how to use the supports I have in place, I know the importance of structure in my life, taking my meds at all times, having a crisis plan, pushing myself to survive moment to moment, to fight even when I feel I can't. I applaud you for getting involved with this. It will help you tremendously. Keep us updated....so others can see what a benefit it is!

Take care,

Mogs

Sounds like something I really need to get involved in.  I am so glad you had a positive experience, that is great!  I keep trying to convince myself that I am not bipolar, regular MD agreed and put me on an anti-depressant.  It took four days to send me into the most anxious case of mania, straight from the worse depression I have ever had.  Have PDoc appt next week, he is not going to be too happy with me but I have not responded to any meds and have been on them all.

You know i kinda perfer this forum to face to face. I feel much more comfortable here not having to see how you all are all looking at me. Its so easy to get scared and not really open up.
