Hi guys,

I am from the UC/Crohn's boards but have a situation I would like input on. My brother's wife is bipolar and in recent months has exhibited even more extreme behavior. She started drinking wine in large amounts and taking Solo Slim. Before this the family seemed to be pretty cohesive and get along fairly well. Afterwards, she began exhibiting very expressive behavior, and tried to isolate herself from her husband and her two and three year old children. She threatened suicide when her husband found out she was having a "text affair" if he didn't give her phone back. She is now on Paxil and was prescribed Lunesta for sleeping issues. A friend found her in a comatose state with both children awake and unsupervised. How could/would the different medications and alcohol intake be affected by also being bipolar?

Thanks for the help.

Solo Slim is apparently stimulant-free, so I would look into the alcohol and drug interactions, rather than the diet supplement.

Paxil and alcohol are a bad combination.  Paxil can cause drowsiness and impair thinking and reactions.  Alcohol intensifies this effect.  So do sleeping aids!

Unfortunately you can't make her take care of herself, but you can bring it to your brother's attention and suggest that her doctor be informed/consulted with the situation.

I hope something will be done to make sure that the children are cared for/supervised at all times.  This must be hard on them!
