Hi everyone...Its only been a week or so since I was diagnosed bipolar. I had a tragedy happen in 2005 and was placed on kolonapin and then zanax...and since I have used and abused both of those drug terribly...I couldnt handled day to day life and I wanted to be numb...So I got numb..and I got addicted..and when I saw that the problem was bigger than me and I tried to stop I went into withdrawls..the drug was controling me. It was a deadly cycle..I finally asked for help and went into dextox 2wks ago..Im out and clean..and plan to stay that way. I was diagosed while in detox as bipolar with extreme highs...I havent had much depression just an out of control lifestyle for years...I was given litheum 900mgs a day and also seraquel (sp?) which I could not afford...Its been 8 days now since I was put on these meds and I am still unsure of what is happening, I know I am clean and that feels great..to not need for a drug after needing one for so long..doc says I was self medicating and took it to the extreme...I just wanted to introduce myself..I very curious and also concerned about being bipolar..and just want to learn as much as I can about what there is to expect...since I have been so used to treating the highs with crazy amounts of benzos...

Yes, welcome and horray that you have been clean and sober for 8 days.  One thing to watch out for (this happened to me) was when they put me on meds to control my manias, it unmasked a depression that was lurking there that the manias were helping to control. Just something to be on the look out for.

Also it may take trying several different drugs to achieve the results you were looking for.  Many of us have been on several different drugs before finding a happy place.

There is lots to learn with this desease, but here, knowage is power. The more you know about this desease the more control you will have over it.

m  Good luck, keep posting, and nice to meet you.
