i am so so unbelievably sleep deprived. what is going on with me??? i just am so frustrated. i haven't slept through the night in at least a week. i usually go to sleep around 4 or 5 in the morning (after trying to sleep the whole night) and then i wake up around 12 in the afternoon. i am so sick of this life style. i had to quit my job, i had to quit going to church, i had to quit going to college and i had to break up with my boyfriend, i had to move to my parents house for the third time. i am so sick of this. i am like seriously a medical mystery. i hate this. ughh.!! i'm taking these supplements right now that are not seeming to be affective yet. and i need sleep. if anyone needs sleep , it's a bipolar girl. i am so annoyed and ticked off. i just want to sleep. and the supplements are giving me a bad tummy ache all the time cuz i have to tak e 20 of them a day.

What kind of supplements are you taking? Can you take them with food to prevent a stomachache?

Are you on meds for bipolar? Something that could even you out? Are you in a manic state right now?

You maybe should call a doctor and get a sleep aid. That might put you back on schedule and possibly be able to work again. I know about staying up late. I go through streaks where I do that. Lately I have been up early. 4:00. I hate it.

It must be very upsetting not being able to get to sleep when you want.  I have similar problems sometimes.

On a positive note, it sounds like you're getting at least 6 hours a night, even if if it takes a long time to get to sleep.  Like the previous poster said, it's a matter of trying to regulate your hours back to normal, and I hope your doctor can help with this.

I hope that being as it is ten months later you have figured out a way to sleep. Considering the nastiness that is bi-polar cycles however one can never be too sure. I work full time and go to school full time so having a week without sleep results in well.... not having a job and not passing my classes. I refuse to put up with that anymore I have been taking medicine as well as taking herbal supplements, getting exercise, eating well and trying to keep a bedtime routine. I was doing very well for over a year and then suddenly I can't sleep for an entire week I sneak naps in here and there where my schedule allows it but that didn't work so well my performance at school is starting to suffer and I worry that work will be next. I love my job and in the last year and a half I have nearly completed my degree with a dean's list gpa. I am so angry, I worked so hard to get this far and now it feels like it is all crumbling around me. Sorry, I don't know why I just poured my heart out to strangers but it's five in the morning and well :) I'm a little nutty right now. If you found the secret to a good nights sleep let me know. I know the obvious answer is to call my doctor have him adjust my medicine and possibly get some sleeping pills. I guess I had just hoped that I was figuring it out and that some day I wouldn't have to work twice as hard as everyone else just to lead a functional life.

I also have sleep issues. I can get to sleep, but not stay asleep. I was taking sleeping pills but I OD on them now the psych Dr says he doesn't think I should have them. I know my medical Dr. would give them to me. I am tempted to ask for them. Think I will have my husband regulate my dosage. I was told I could take 1/2 pill or whole pill. 1/2 pill didn't seem to do it, so I took a whole pill. But I got pretty "drunk" on it and also got so I was really looking foward to 9 so I could take that pill. But I did get a good night's sleep!

a couple of nights this week I took some loritab that I had left over to put me to sleep. I know how dangerous that is so I didn't do it tonight because I didn't want to get addicted. I don't know what exactly they expect us to do... part of me thinks it is the sleep I am addicted to not the medication. I don't sleep that beautifully on my own.

Have you ever heard of Cloral Hydrate. It's a sedative used on babies. It is a powder mixed in either alcohol or water. My Dr. Prescribed it for me. It's puts me to sleep almost instantly. And it has no side effect. I used to stay up all night just like you. Didn't want to sleep and couldn't sleep anyway, day or night- during my high. Seroquel make me sleepy but it's Cloralhydrate that works. Ask your doctor. Hope this helps. shocked

Hi there,

I can relate to you on how annoying and frustrating it is to not get a good nights sleep. For so many years I have suffered from insomnia during episodes of mania. Currently, my doctor has me on Seroquel 600mg which has effectively been letting me get enough sleep, however, the downfall is that there are days that I end up sleeping for 16 hours and when I wake up I am still tired and have a hard time struggling to keep my eyes open. My doctor has been battling at trying to give me the right combination as well as dosage of medications for about 2 years now and we have yet to find a happy medium. Try talking with your doctor if you have one and get started on trying to find the right combination of medications that will work well for you. I feel bad for you and I know that it can drastically wear on ones body and mind when they are going through episodes of depression, mania or mixed episodes and we can sometimes feel like were going crazy. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that something will work out for you. In the meantime, try taking some Melatonin if you havn't tried so already. It is a natural drug free sleep aid and it sometimes can help and since it is drug free it's a lot safer for you. You can find Melatonin at Walmart, Walgreens or just about any local grociery store.

I usually use Melatonin to sleep and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. I have taken them every night this week and it only worked once. I had an amazing nights sleep and wonderful dreams but the other six days have been a struggle. I have been hitting the gym at night trying to wear myself out so I will sleep better, sometimes that works but sometimes when I am already manic it just increases the mania which is what I feel it is doing right now. My biggest problem is how much it is affecting my school work right now. I just cannot focus and it is killing me... I cannot fail my class.
