This is my first time to do anything close to chat.  But, my brother who is now 42 suffers terribly from what I believe is Bipolar Disorder.  He is so bad, we are having trouble getting him to see any kind of doctor.  My mom has made appointments with several doctors, only to have to cancel because my brother won't go.  When he is in a really down mood, this is when he asks for help.  However, help cannot be found quickly enough before the mood changes.  He self medicates with street xanax and alcohol and possibly cocaine.  He has never held a steady job.  I believe he has been suffering for at least 20 years.  He is now mostly out of control or constantly sleeping.  He is terrified we are trying to have him commited.  I am afraid if we call 911, they will just take him to jail because of his rage.  Please, if anyone has any suggestions on how we can convince him to get help, I need to know.

You should contact the local NAMI chapter in your area.  If you tell me which big city you live near I can get you a phone number..(NAMI is the National Alliance for Mental Illness)

Especially if you feel your safety is in danger,  or your brother might hurt himself..
