For as terrible as I felt a couple of months ago, now I feel so much better.  It seems like once every decade or so I have a very strong manic episode and then I even out again in to my normal mild hypomania/normal periods.  I'm off all meds and fine again.  Does anyone else have experience with this?  I just don't see any point of staying on meds when I only have serious issues once every ten years or so.

Hi, are you dx Bipolar, or depression.Well you said you do have manic episodes so I am assuming you are Bp , maybe unipolar or type  II.
I wish I would only have an episode once whenever. You are fortunate, anyways if you can manage without your meds that is great. What were you on? Do you have frequent bouts with depression ? I am glad you are doing well, wish I could say the same. I hate to take my meds, but I know I have too. Curious to know, when you do have manic periods, how long do they last?Sorry I really can't comment on going awhile without any episodes, it is good to know someone can cope without meds.

No, I have more hypomanic periods than depressed times.  Usually a full blown, out of control manic episode will last 3 maybe four months but I stay hypomanic most of the time anymore.

I was on Abilify, Klonopin and Effexor.  I had some problems going off the meds all at once and had to restart and stop them one at a time.  I'm still having a few issues with anxiety attacks but that appears to be resolving itself as well.

I really don't know what type BP I am.  The pdoc I was seeing at the time of dx never said or maybe I don't remember.  Must be type II to be able to go off the meds I guess.  With any luck I'll be able to hold out for another decade.
