Hello All,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience, (and hopefully some success) treating Restless Leg syndrome. I talked with my doctor about it the other day and have been pondering since.

I'm on Effexor and Epival and he said that there's potential that either one could produce or exacerbate exisiting RLS symptoms. At the time, I was thinking this is only a recent thing and that the introduction of the meds would explain it, but after some thought, I think that its been going on for a couple of years, even before I started the prescriptions.

My sleep has been kind of crappy lately, but on a relative scale, I've been doing ok and I'm not interested in any more prescription intervention. I've done some reading that suggests vitamin and mineral supplements help RLS, but I don't have much info on dosages. Specifically, Iron, Magnesium, Vitamin C and Calcium are supposed to help (I believe some are necessary to compliment the others).

Just thought I would pose the question in the event other people have had similar experiences.

Thanks,
Putter

Hello putter, well I am glad you asked a question on this because up until now I had no idea what this was.  And the only two people I knew of having this were you and stox4pat (patti). So I researched, I like to learn and gain info. for myself also. I found out that yes there are vitamins and minral supplements to take for temporary relief, however I found that in May of 2005 the drug Ropinirole was FDA approved as the first drug for treatment of RLS. Now you may have already known this but I on the other hand did not. Nor did I even know what it was. I am sorry to hear you have to experience this at all. All I did was google RLS and a whole bunch of info. came up. I will go back and try to find dosage amounts for you, but I did want to tell you about that med in case you didn't already know.     Nickie

Okay here's what I found. A daily dose of 300mg of potassium, 800-1000mg of calcium, and 500mg of magnesium at bedtime. Now I don't want you to just take my word for it I found this at Nature's Medicine Restless Leg Syndrome. I think I was under alternative treatments for RLS. Always check with your doc before starting any  combination of supplements. I know you already know that. lol Hope that helps, it helped me learn something new today.

Hey Nickie,

Thanks for the info. I'm actually off to the drug store to see what I can find. I appreciate the input. It really isn't any big deal in the grand scheme of things for me. I try to remember that its all just par for the course.

Thanks again!

Putter

Hi Putter. It is Stox4pat (patti) Just wanted to see if the stuff you got from the drug store is helping your RLS any. I hope so ;~). For the record, (see below also) I am Epileptic besides every other disease there is...LOL trying to keep that sense of humor!! Seriously tho, if u are not getting any relief from your RLS my Neurologist that I see for my Epilepsy, who works at the University of Miami, and Putter there is no better Doc in the world, put me on Neurontin. I was shocked! I was like isnt this a med for seizures/and BiPolar? He told me yes it is, but also works for RLS. Honey I am severely depressed and have a world of illnesses and no way would I stear u the wrong way, this med helped within a week! I couldnt sleep, I thought I was going crazy, It was like my legs were moving when I was laying down, sitting, sleeping (trying to) and I just couldnt take it anymore. So, i take 1 pill that is 300mg (I think that is the only mg they make) 1 x a day. So, I TOTALLY underdtand about having to take so many meds..but the good thing is it is only 1 pill instead of several. Also, my friend DO NOT believe anyone that tells u its in your mind. Putter, it is a real illness, so the other good news is u r not crazy! I guess I shouldn't say that as I dont know u and u may be a serial killer...LOL! Kidding again my dear. Let me know if u need anymore info, I am more than happy to help. I hope u r feeling better. Take care and keep in touch!

Oh Putter..forgot to tell u that I take a prenatal vitamin w/iron as I am also anemic from the colitis. And those are prescription vitamins, and have a TON of all the stuff u were requesting about dosages. Not to be a downer, but my dear that didnt help me at all for the RSL. As we all know everyone is different, so hopefully the vitamins will help you, however if they do not try the Neurontin..IT IS THE BOMB! And it isnt a narcotic, it isnt addictive. So, like I said in the previous post let me know how u r doing!

Peace and GREAT GOLF COURSES coming to u from South Florida,
