Does anyone know how long it takes for the constant drowsiness of the abilify to wear off? Mentally I feel great. Better than I have in a long time. But, I could fall asleep in the middle of a blvd. at the drop of a hat!!!

Thank you for any help,

Sandra

Hey Sandra, I am not sure how long it actually takes, although my pap was on it before, and he felt the same way you are. Unfortunately he died not too long after taking it. Not to to the meds , he had blood cancer. Anyways, I really hope you start to fell more awake , that really sucks. When I first started topamax, I had the same effect, I think it stopped about 3 weeks after first starting. By the way thanks for my email last week, I just noticed it today, I think Jay opened it and forgot to tell me. Thanks, you are so sweet. Nickie

Ah Nick, you are too, and thank you so much for the support. I do hope you are feeling better about your Pap. I know it can be rough for a really long time. I'll try to hang in there. I admit it is a little hard to do your job when you are falling asleep while talking to people...LOL Oh well, some of them are boring as heck anyway.

Love to you,

Sandra

I'm currently dealing with the abilify stupor as well. Mine only lasts a week or so and then it makes me a little hyper. I slept almost all day saturday. My husband said the kids were climbing all over me at one point and I just laid there like I was dead. Nice. By the way, once I get past the grogginess I love abilify. It was a real miracle for me last time. At least until I crashed and wimped out. Once all the tiredness passed I didn't have any side effects at all. I guess I shouldn't say that, this time I'll probably grow a third eye in the middle of my forehead or something. lol

Thanks, I didn't remember the neck pain from last time and was afraid to take it this morning. Ah well, if its just another normal "benefit" from this med guess theres no excuse not to take it. Guess I might as well do it now before I chicken out. Have a good day!

Ellie, or Sandra, if and when you increase , I just want you to be aware, as topamax did to me, all or just some of the side effects could come back. They probably will suside in a short amount of time, less than the first. Everytime i increased my topamax, i would get the pins and needles effect. Ugh... then a day or two later it would go away. Now I don't know if abilifiy will have the same results or not... just giving you some extra info. in case. Hope all is well today. Nickie

Oh, terrific.  Today is the day I pick to start Abilfy and then I read all the nasty side effects that last for over a WEEK!!!!!   I already feel like ****! mad

I'm teasing you guys tongue , kidding yeah :-)

The only reason I am going to go through it is because I've been hearing and reading that it really does work and not sedating.  I'm on a bunch of sedating stuff.   My pdoc wanted me to add it to all the others I take, but I'm going to try and see if maybe I can't get off the Trileptal I don't see the need to be on 3 mood stabilizers. eyes

Neck pain?  Nothing new to me; from 2 decades of mania my neck is totally screwed up from being in knots constantly.  I actually have arthritis in it already, I can hear it whenever I move and have for as long as I can remember.  The chiro only made it 10 times worse!

Keep posting on your symptoms, I'm right behind ya!

believe it or not once you get past that week its not sedating at all. At least not for me. I need to take it at bedtime at first but once I become accustomed to it I have to take it in the morning or I won't sleep at all. Weird huh? Hang in there. Looks like we're all in this together.

I'm fine on this. Is your reaction what they call flu syndrome? I was reading junk online and you know how accurate that stuff can be. lol I'm just hypo at the very least. A little edgy and jumping at shadows. Part of that has to do with the fact that my sons father (I became very manic after I divorced my first husband and made some terrible mistakes, except for my son, he may have been a surprise but is certainly no mistake.) is going to be in town today and he is VERY VERY agressive. I picked my husband over him and he just isn't over it yet. It's been seven years for goodness sake. Oh well, I'll take an extra Klonopin and keep the phone close. Lord knows I've had him arrested before. I think if I had less stress in my life I'd be responding to my meds better.

Yeah, stress can do horrible things to us even on meds.  It's always fragile.

Just protect yourself.  Carry some mace, lol.

I did read about possible fever, and it did happen, thats where all the other symtpoms came from.  so far, it's not happening to day.  I hope not!  Miserable!  I don't have any change in mood since before.  Three days in.  Did you guys have any change in mood by then?

I didn't yet at 3 days, remember, I was still feeling pretty crappy and thinking "hey this sh** is not going to work!!!" Hang in there Shan. It's going to work. Right about the 3rd or 4th day is when I started getting really sleepy in the afternoon, and then, low and behold boom, I started feeling better. Then better, then better.

And, today's crappy day, has nothing to do with meds, just a crappy day. Feeling fine in that respect. Honest.

I've had alot of change already and its been 5 days now. I'm not anywhere near as irritable. Not tired at all. Felt a little euphoric yesterday but I think that may have been the Abilify/Klonopin combo. Plus an empty stomach.
Although I must be talking a mile a minute because my neighbor asked me what I was on (shes been dx as well but is still self med with drugs/alcohol) said she wanted some of that.
I'm a little scared actually. I'm afraid I'm going too high on this and I'm going to crash and burn in a bad way. My heads really racing this morning and I took the med last night. Maybe I need a Klonopin

You should call your doc, Ellie, that doesn't sound right and you may be in for a crash, too.  Or not, but why gamble.  I dont think it's going to happen to me because I'm on 2 mood stabilizers as it is (oh, three now if you count abilify eyes )

Yeah, I think I'll do that. I've hit the point where the high is a little uncomfortable. I wonder though. I'm only taking 2.5 right now. Still breaking them in half. I think when she told me to break them in half she was unaware I still had some 5 mgs left. My last script was for ten. Maybe I'm just not taking enough. Or maybe if I take more I'll shoot to the darn moon. Guess I'll call her and find out.

Good deal, it's important esp in the beginning of any med to watch for anything that could get dangerous and call.  I also know most of us tend to be feeling guilty for even calling, but it's mandatory!  Docs are there to help us, it's their job and what we and insurance pay them for!

Wow, they called back fast. Usually takes 24 hours. Said she was under the impression i was already on 5 and to bump it up. Oh boy, here we go. Wonder if I'll go back to sleep or clean the garage?
