I was diagnosed bipolar 15 years ago and have been "relatively" stable on Depakote and Celexa. I now want to get pregnant with my partner but am afraid to go off my medication. I experienced panic attacks and minor depression 3 months ago when I tried to go off the antidepressant Celexa. My doc has said that it's not necessary to go off Celexa, but Depakote is a risk for the first trimester. Has anyone had experience going off Depakote in order to get pregnant?

What I would do is do some search online for the pregancy categories for your meds and their FDA pregnancy ratings. Now, those aren't 100% accurate. They may still cause problems, or may not cause problems despite what they say. It takes some judgement. The other concern is if the child will get the disease. Is that worth not having a child? Heck no!
