I just satrted taking Seroquel about 3 nights ago and it has been making me so sleepy. Has anyone else taken this and does it make you sleepy? I'm switching from Paxil to Zoloft and my pdoc said this will help with my transition. Should I be on SSRIs with bipolar?? I'm so confused???

SSRI's aren't all that uncommon in bipolar disorder. There is some debate over whether they can cause mania and are most commonly used in combination with another med. I've taken an ssri exclusively before though, and experienced no problems. How you react varies widely from person to person. Just stay aware and make sure you contact your pdoc if you experience any problems.

I have been on Seroquel for about a year and a half and it STILL makes me very, very sleepy.  It is super at block out the racing mind problem at bedtime, but I have to be very strategic at what time I take it or I'll be a zombie the next day.  After years and years of not being able to sleep, I don't mind this inconvenience.  I have mine set up to where I take the full dose at bedtime. . . I absolutely can't take it during the day.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for responding. I took the dose at 8pm last night and found that I wasn't as sleepy by 10am. Thanks for the advise! It really did help!

You are welcome! I think after getting used to it, you will not want to go without it. I've never slept so well in my life!

Take care!

I took the Seroquel at 8pm last night and found that I was fully awake (as much as possible with being on Zoloft) by 9am, so it seems to be getting better. I was exhausted by 10pm last night and I slept great. Thanks for everyone's support!

My doc put me on Seroquil last Friday.  I took 25mg around 10pm (also started on 37.5 Effexor XR at 3pm) and awoke Saturday with a pounding headache and extreme fatigue.  It's a good thing it was Saturday, because I didn't get out of bed until 6PM!  I cut the pill into 1/4 the dosage and took one around 9pm Sat night.  This morning I was better, but still groggy.  This stuff really knocks you out!  I'm afraid I won't be able to function at work tomorrow.

Hi

I am on 600 mg Seroquel and have been for about a year and a half. It sedates me as much as it did from day 1. I don't get the "seroquel hangover" as much as I used to, mind you I work shift work so I have the ability to sleep in, which I do! I like how it curbs my irritability and keeps me asleep thru the night, but the weight gain is unbearable.

Maybe thats what I need. I am the most irritable person in the world. Of course I've also gained 25 pounds and I believe thats part of my problem now. I'm so frustrated, I diet and diet to no avail. That makes me grumpy in itself.
