Anyone been told by pdoc that lithium takes years to truly do its thing? I have been on it for a year and a half no side effects other than whacky thryoid and bloat and am still sufffering from mania and depression. P doc says it takes up tp 2 years to truly work, just haven't seen this in any literature! AHHHH! eyes

I have heard this. I just couldn't stay on it that long. I ended up foggy and fat. Plus it didn't do squat in the few months I was on it for any of my symptoms. Just guess I'm not patient enough. lol.

I've never heard that about lithium but the meds I have been on started working after a few days.  I just couldn't tolerate the side effects of Topomax.  I am on geodon now and it is working great. Maybe you need a new doctor who is willing to try you on a different med.

I've had a horrible time trying to get my son to take his meds!!! I finally gave up and gave in. But that didn't work either...WHAT A TOTAL NIGHTMARE THIS IS!! My head aches and my heart breaks! BUT HE AGREED TO TAKE THE LITHIUM. He's taken one pill and announced that it's "working". (Knock on wood) Yes, it's just one pill, but maybe there's "hope". Bipolar teens are a parents worst nightmare!!!

ive been on lithium since i was dxed and i simply cant wait for the medicine to work. I have an appointment with my pdoc for tomorrow to ask about different meds. I feel like some parts of my bp have gotten worse. But that isnt always the case! Some people take lithium and it works great for them so dont give up just yet.
