Hi Jeff,
I have bipoar2 disorder, and also have autoimmune hepatitis. I don't know much about hep C. Sorry I don't have any information to help you. I don't even know anything about interferon except that I have heard it mentioned as a treatment for different types of autoimmune diseases. I am on prednisone for AIH, and am weaning to a low dose.
I hope someone here can give you some insight. I do quite a bit of research on the web. I'll see what I can come up with.

Be Well,

Judy

Hi Jeff,

Sorry I don't know anything about interferon. I hope you get some useful info from what Judy's found. There may be others on here who have some knowledge of this too.

Hi Jeff,
I am bipolar 1, rapid cycling.  I was diagnosed with active hep C some years ago.  They did a liver biopsy and tons of bloodwork to confirm the disease.  I was told at the time that the interferon could have some bearing on my bpolar, esp. the depression.  After weighing the alternatives (I have grandbabies!) I decided to have some faith and just go ahead with recommended course of treatment which was interferon.  I had 17 months of 3 x a week self injections and worked very closely with my therapist, pdoc, gastroenterologist, and family doctor.  I also had a good support network of friends.  The main things I remember were feeling like I had the flu and being very tired.  I also had memory problems, and yes some depression.  But, it was do-able.  Today I have no detectable viral load (8+ years!!) and my liver function tests come back completely normal.  You may feel alone, but you're not.  Let me know how you are doing.  Been there, done that.
