advice on lithium

i see some of the side effect are tremours but i get bad hand tremours cannot write properly sometimes i get facial twitches and my legs shake uncontrolaby at times then other times am fine i am coming of lithium so will these side effcects go away as the dose gets reduced.

Have you had a blood lithium level checked recently? If not, I think you might discuss this with your doctor. It is possible to develop a toxicity with lithium if your dose is too high. On the other hand, it needs to be a therapeutic level and a blood test can answer these questions. Hang in there. I'll bet if you being rx'd a lower dose now you'll be better shortly, but it could take a couple of weeks. I know, it must be really unsettling for you. It may just take time for your blood levels to go down and to feel less shaky and scared.

Yes, it was me...I know because I was there when I did it. Lupus sufferer, bipolar II sufferer. Currently on Indocin for chronic pericarditis related to lupus, and cherishing every deep breath without pain. Currently in graduate school for mental health counseling, class of Fall 2007. Vegan and loving it!

you've been around long enough to know that each individual reacts to each medication uniquely.  i take 900 mg of lithium a day and have hand tremmors.  a small price to pay for my sanity.  but you may react differently.  i had an almost immediate rection to lithium.  others have to wait several weeks or several months.  my neurologist hates lithium because it severely restricts the other meds you can take.  everything is a trade-off.
