I have my appt. today w/ pdoc. I'm going to tell him of my plans to get pregnant within the next few months. Although I'm nervous. I don't know if he will be as supportive as my therapist was last week.

I'm sure he will try to prescribe something in the meantime. I sorta feel like the pdocs sugar coat the side effects of a medicine when they recommend what to take. So I need real advice from people who have taken them.

A few years ago I tried Risperdal w/ Cogentin - hated it. Will never try something like that again.

Then a few months ago I was on Lamictal, only made it up to 150 mg a day before I had breakthrough rapid cycling. But this was the only med that I did not have horrible side effects.

Next was Trileptal, it made me very anxious and brought back my panic attacks. OCD also seemed worse. Not to menton debilitating headaches, nausea, and I was hungry all the time.

So whats next? I'm lost. I dont want anything that causes weight gain, or makes me too tired to exercise.

Input would be greatly appreciated. I know each person is different, but I still want to know what everyone else takes.

Thanks Zomese

Zomese,

I can't really recommend anything b/c you and I both have one of the same problems with meds--side effects.  Lamictal was also the only bp drug that was okay with me.  It also caused me to cycle though too, just like you.  Maybe, consider talking to the pdoc about Lamictal with something else?  I don't know.

What I do know is, that when you do take the time to get pregnant, if during that time you want to be off meds, don't let the pdocs tell you any different.  It is ultimately your decision, period.  My pdoc wasn't too happy with my decision to go off meds, but he really didn't have a choice did he?  Also, if you feel you might not want to try another med until after you're baby is born, then look at that option as well.  It is your body, your mind.  It is your decision.

Hope it all goes well, let us know.

Thanks Mogli. You and I share the same point of view. I appreciate your support.

I am glad you are doing better too.

Thats so wierd that lamictal did that to the both of us. And that figures it the one medicine that had the least amount of side effects.

Thanks Olivia. My appt. went great. Better than I hoped.

No new meds. He said if I feel agitation coming on, or if I'm not sleeping well to take Seroquel for a few days to get through it. Any sign of mania, take a Seroquel. Only 25 mg too.

Also I can take Klonopin as needed for my anxiety/panic. Which usually doesn't happen until I take another medicine.

He also said that once I decide to have a baby, stop my seroquel for a month before I start trying. When I do get pregnant we'll just take the mood swings as they come.

Yeah, finally someone who is willing to work with me. He said I'm too sensitive to try anything else right now after what happent w/ the Trileptal & lamictal. Rash, headache, nausea, rapid cycling etc.... I agree 100%

I'm so happy! No meds unless I need them. This is exactly what I hoped for.

Mogli, I know you have a problem w/ medicine too. Maybe you and your Dr. could consider something like this also. Only take as needed. I know you & I are similar.

I really hope this works. I will keep everyone updated. I'm sorry if this post was too long.
