Our son {9} has been manic for about 3 weeks now the Pdoc increased both his Lithium and Geodon{from40mg bid to 60mg bid} and over this past weekend he became obvious to us he was hallucinating ie. searching all around for flying bugs felt as thou they were crawling on him taking his clothes off trying to get the bugs off him ,paniking over buzzing noices, etc. it was very difficult to watch and almost impossible to calm him. On Monday night in would'nt lie down in bed because of the so called buzzing sounds around him and {something in his bed} I had to chang all his covers to calm him 3 hours later he finally dozed off. Called his Pdoc{on vacation} Dr. on call wants to Hospitalize him I wonder if it's actually the Geodon that's brougt these symptoms on . Has anyone had this problem too. This crawling effect? Any advice or thoughts are appreciated?

Glory,

I am currently on Geodon at the moment, and have gotten paranoid while being on it (but I don't know if it was the med or my BP). I've even had horrible nightmares a few times, but that happened the higher my dose got.  But I doing much better on it, I don't have the drastic side effects that I did in the past.  I think it was worse because I was not sleeping that much, and if it was the side effects of the med,  it was made worse by lack of sleep.  I am sorry that your son is going through rough times.  If it continues for sometime, I would either take him to the pdoc and discuss the symptoms, or taking to the ER if things continue to get worse.

Hi O-Thanks for asking he is begun to get better saw the Pdoc again on Wed she adjusted the Lithium,Remeron,Cogentin, last week uped Geodon, added Abilify and is referring us to Endo for a eval. for his thydroid. The hallucinations have calmned down now.He still panic's very easily. And I did'nt know about all the smelling things Doc says it's called ollfactory hallucinations (spell?) ever heard of this? Glad she's back from vacation the Dr. that has been taking care of him wanted him in the hospital ,my husband and I just could,nt bring ourselves to do that again. The last time was just so hard on our whole family we have 3 grown children ,they took it as hard as we did. He being only 9 he had never been away even 1 night from home before. Pdoc says he's still manic we agree and with school beginning in about 10 days we don't know what decision we will make concerning startintg at that time or waiting.(1day at a time). She's been concerned about his lack of weight I said he will go for 2-3 days at times not eating even 1 thing and then he'll decide to eat again,It just depends on where he is in a cycle. (he only at the 20%for his growth chart)course meds have alot to do with eating. We're just hoping for a better future she says some go on to do very well as they grow older so we continue to do all we can in the mean time . We call him our little retirement package. Our other kids are 33,27 and 22 and then he's 9 are u laughing yet we still are. We all love him soooo much.
