Hey everyone :)

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a few years ago, but just recently started treatment for it. I tend to get more severe depressive episodes followed by light manic episodes. I have been on lamictal for a little over three months and am up to 200 mgs daily. I wanted to know if anyone has tried lamictal with something like 5-HTP, SAM-E, or some kind of homeopathic drug to treat the depression.

Thank you so much for your input :)

I went through Lamictal with my doc in search for something that worked for me. I tend to be hyper more than depressed and started on all this because I had trouble sleeping and anxiety attacks. Lamictal didn't work well, nor Seroquel but I like Remeron that I'm on now. I went to a pain management specialist in LA (flew down there) to get that diagnosis and then twisted Kaisers arm to let me try it. Good results , just way lowered Libido? K

olivia of course

Laura and Kride,

Welcome to the HW family.

I was on Lamictal for almost 2 years in the past, and it stopped working after that. Lamictal tends to have a anti-depressant effect on some people. But it can also be not enough to treat the depression that goes with BP.

The only thing that I have taken were anti-depressant, which made symptoms worse. I have not used 5-HTP, SAM-E, or some kind of homeopathic drug before. But before you start taking them, talk to your pdoc if it would intrfere with what you are currently taking. You shouldn't start or stop with any meds without your pdoc's knowledge. I hope your depression gets better, best wishes!
