I currently take Risperal, Cymbalta, Klonopin, and Xanax as needed as well as Lotensin for blood pressure. (I'm bipolar with anxiety mixed in.)
Over Labor Day weekend, I was experiencing sneezing, a runny nose (allergy like symptoms), so I decided to take a benadryl.  My friend told me that it would make me sleepy and that I probably shouldn't take it, but I didn't think it would bother me much and took it anyway.
It more or less trigger a manic phase.  I was bouncing off the walls, talking fast, couldn't sit still.  I went out with friends and ended up drinking a lot, but it didn't seem to affect me much.  I finally ended up at a friend's house where we sat and talked for a few hours.  I began winding down around 2 a.m. and made it to bed sometime around 3 a.m.
I guess the point is that we need to be careful about OTC medications if we're taking several prescription drugs.
This was a weird experience for me so I thought I'd share it with everyone here.

I don't know if it is a manic episode or just a temporary high mood. I too don't do well on Benadryl, I would be up really late if I sleep at all on it. I didn't realize how much it affected my mood till about a year ago. I have taken it in the past and used to think I was losing my mind. It's strange how many people take it for sleep. So I just weanted to let you know you are not alone.
