OK....
I started on 100 mg. topamax at night for anxiety....then my pdoc prescribed a gradual increase of 25 mg/morning in addition to the 100/night for 4 days at a time until I reached 100 mg./morning.

At 25/morning and 100/night - anxiety was good.
now - at 50/morning and 100/night - anxiety is terrible!

I am supposed to go to 75/morning and 100/night tomorrow and I am so nervous.

Logically, isn't it safe to say that if I was doing great @ 25/100, I would do even better @ 50/100 and so on.......

Anyone have any experience with topamax? I would appreciate your stories!
Thanks

I can't speak about Topamax, but I can share that as my S was adjusting to the trileptal at the beginning, we only knew we hit the right levels because we would then increase it and things went badly...and when we took another step up, it got worse again, not better. We'd only keep going (if needed) when that second step up proved positive. Otherwise, we went to the level he was happiest at. If you were at a level that WAS working for you well, I don't see a reason to increase it unless it wasn't fully doing its job. Hang in there and keep us posted. LFW

Casem,

I have not taken Topomax before, but I have taken several mood stabilizers. I don't know why your anxiety got worse when your dose was upped. Normally if you are on the right med, side effects get better as the dose is increased. You should try to follow the dose your doc suggested, but do not take the higher dose if you feel it is not going to help. You can try it out (the 75/100), or call and your pdoc and let them know how the 50/100 made you feel and ask for suggestions. Best wishes, and please let us know how things go.

I agree with OOC, Casem. Stick to the prescription, but if something doesn't feel right, call the doc.

I'm on Topomax right now. A lot of it. 600 mgs. The doc's using it to blast me out my mixed state, if you will. I'll let you know how it goes. I don't like it, and she's not going to keep me on it long term.

Keep us up to date.

Thank you for the advice. I have had to take xanax every day, but I am still taking the topamax as prescribed. I am trying to keep a mood chart (like a total organized geek)......and I see my pdoc on Tuesday, so I will let you know.
