hi. my name is angela. i'm 25 and have been married for 5 years. i'm new to the forum and to bipolar disorder. after years of struggling with depression, i finally seen a psychiatrist who is treating me for bipolar II. after doing some research...all the issues in my life seem to have fallen into place with the symptoms of the disorder. i feel like i got the short end of the stick. my hypomanic episodes are short and far between while my depression sucks up my existence for weeks on end. i'm on lexapro and lamictal now. i've started going to the gym regularly and eating better. so far, i've lost 6 of my 18 effexor pounds. that feeling is amazing! to be able to feel joy is empowering!

my last hypomanic episode really took my already shaky marriage right down to hell. i'm trying to stabilize my moods all while trying to repair the relationship i have with an unrelenting, controlling man. i've wanted to leave him but i'm not sure if that was actually me or the illness making those decisions. i would give anything to feel ok. i wish i could sleep less than 10 hours a day. now i'm rambling.

Hi Angela,

Welcome to the forum. Bipolar is a sneaky devil, isn't she? I'm so sorry to hear about what a hard time you've been having but glad that you've been feeling better now that you're on medication that helps and going to the gym. Wish I could get it together to go, because I know it really helps.

This is a great place to vent, so no need to apologize for rambling. That's what we're all about. I hope we can offer you a community a place to feel at ease among others who understand what you're going through.

Bipolar II
It is a melancholy of mine own, compounded of many simples, extracted from many objects, and indeed the sundry contemplation of my travels, in which my often rumination wraps me in a most humorous sadness. -- William Shakespeare

Hi Angela,

I too wanted to welcome you to the HW forum, I am glad that you are finally getting the treatment that you need. I am sorry that you went through a rough time. I am also glad that going to the gym is empowering to you, it definetly lifts the moods. Please keep us updated on your progress, and feel free to keep posting.

Hi Angela welcome to the forum. I was on lexapro for a while and I think I might need to be put on it again. I was put on it last year when my best friend passed away. I've been feeling down a lot lately. I think it has something to do with this time of the year and stress at home. My hubby has become really lazy and doesn't help do anything at home. Among other things. I hope you find it easy to come in here and talk when you need to.

Hi I was diagnosed 7 years ago but never fully learned what bipolar even really is. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone here also. I wish you good luck with your struggles with your husband. I am not married myself; not sure if anyone would ever want to marry me!

Anyway, I wanted to say welcome to the forum.
