My grandmother had radical double mastectomies. As far as I know, my mother is fine. I am 30 and getting a mammogram next year. Just noticed this year my areola has a super faint ring about the size of a quarter. I only noticed the faint outline because part of the line includes the skin above the areola. Does anyone know what this could be?

I know of nothing that would make the areola change colors that has to do with breast cancer. Pregnancy changes the color. So perhaps it may have something to do with hormones. I really don't think it is anything to worry about, but mention it to the dr next time you go.

I know preganancy would change the color of the whole areola, but this is just a faint ring outline. I have a whole year to go before my insurance pays for another visit, thats a long time to wonder!

You should not have to wait a year for a mammo if there is a problem or area to investigate. Please see your doctor and ak for the referrals you need to gt to the bottom of it. Routine or screening mammograms are done annually but if there is any need for any other mammo during the year, they call it a diagnostic mammogram and it gets coded differently. Check with your insurance to be sure but don't put off an exam just for the insurance. It's probably nothing, but best to be sure.
