Well it's official . . after 17 years of teaching -- 11 with cancer -- last Thursday was my last day!  I had originally planned on retiring on disability at the end of the school year but the past three weeks have been too hard and just had to give it up.

I took my first Ixempra treatment (along with Tykerb & Xeloda) March 21st and ended up in the hospital the 26th with a white count of 800 -- down from 4400 the day of the treatment . . the red count fell/platelets . . yada yada yada. . got out of hospital, took 3 more days off and headed back to work . .worked two part time days/2 full days and then another treatment. We cut the dosage in half and it was better but I could only work about two days without needing the next day off to sleep the whole day. Last Thursday I headed in again but kept having to sit down from the fatigue . . eventually broke down in principal's office . . and decided to go on catastrophic sick leave for the rest of the year. Time to take some time for Jackie and her kids.

I have started filling out my SS Disability form online but going very slowly. about to get up and begin my other new career . . cleaning up my house . . OH LORD!  I'm doing well and will you'll probably see more of me now! tongue
Hugs to all -- Jackie

Dear Jackie...here's to hoping you make many memories in your time off! It is well-deserved time off, I must say. I highly recommend hiring someone to clean the house. It is the best money you will ever spend!

Love and hugs...

It was past time that you take care of yourself, you have really worked hard all these years when you were not feeling well. I know it was hard making that decision but it will help you when you can rest when you need to. We went to my daughter's for dinner over the weekend. She cooked and buzzed around the kitchen as if all was well. She looked good, and made a delicious meal including meringue tortes filled with strawberries and whipped cream for dessert. She is on Xeloda and Aredia. Her red count is hovering between 8 and 9 when it should be 13.5, yet she is still insisting she work because they need the money. I truly admire you women who can carry on under breast cancer's treatment. God bless you! Hugs and love, MK

PS the house will take care of itself, everyone needs to do their share and keep it picked up!!

Jackie,
I think it is amazing you have hung in there this long. Hope you enjoy your retirement. Now you can focus on you without outside stressors. Take care of yourself. Hugs, Lauri (dxed 04/11/1996)
