Hello,  Enjoyed reading all the comments and experiences from everyone.  I am really feeling confused even though I have my Bachelors of Nursing from UT.  In May 2003 I had a mastectomy on right side neg lymph nodes, didn't do chemo or radiation but did take Arimidex for the last five years until this May 2008.  Went to Dr. to decide what to do since it was five years and he discovered a swollen axillary lymph node. He did a fine needle biopsy then which came back positive.  Followed up at oncologist office who ordered MRI, ultrasound, Mammogram, CAT/Pet scans, Stereotactic biopsy, all of which came back negative.  Now they want to put a port in and begin chemo.  They think the tumor is in the breast but not sure.  Has anyone had a problem like this one?  Appreciate any advice anyone can give me....I feel very hopeless at this time...please help!

Hi Power!
Is your BSN from UT in Austin? I have a BA from there, class of 1990.

Sorry you are facing a recurrence. I have heard where in some cases they cannot locate the primary tumor. I would think that they would want to do a node dissection to see how many are cancerous and to remove it surgically. From there, they can at least determine for sure if it is breast cancer as opposed to any other kind (perhaps they have already done so?). At least if they know for sure that it's breast cancer, they can treat it as such.

Keep us posted along the way...

Thank you for the support!  I did graduate from Univ. of Texas...I loved it!  They did do a PET/CAT Scan and didn't see anything.  T his Friday they are going to do a biopsy where they think it is and also of the axillary nodes and they are also going to put a port.  I am not looking forward to it!!!  I still need to find a oncologist here in Houston.  Thank you for your reply...Power

Power-
Not to date yourself, but when were you in Austin? I lived in Houston in the 80's and my family is still there. Brother in Clear Lake and parents are NW.

Hang in there!

Hi!  I was born in Austin and lived there until the late 70's and then moved to Houston and currently live in Kingwood which is near Bush Airport.  I loved Austin... I had a biopsy and a port put in on Friday...can't wait for results.  Thank you for your reply.  Power
