Dear Lauri...sorry this is a day late, but haven't been around much lately!  We just recently got my youngest (and the grandbaby! Ouch!) off to North Carolina, so I was on and off work, taking Bri when I could so her momma could pack (and pitch! lol) without interference, and going and doing all of our "summer" things in 3 weeks instead of 12.  Let me tell you, Dobbe is one tired puppy!  And speaking of puppies, I've had two grandpuppies for the summer while the other DD is up in Cleveland on an internship, and the other grandpuppy and 2 grandkitties for the last couple of weeks before DD got moved.  Add all that to my three, and we had MORE than a full house!  For the first time ever, I kind of missed the old monstrosity we used to call "home."  To top it all off, good old Pudge decided to eat some huge, coated ball bearing (for god knows where), and he had to have abdominal surgery in the midst of all the chaos.

Anyway, DD1 will be heading back to Louisville in a couple of weeks to prep for another year of school, and picking up her puppies on her way.  She'll actually be teaching her own classes this year, and she is so excited.  She has been working fast and furious on getting things published the last few months.  She called me the other day and told me that she is going to be in an encyclopedia.  She's apparently co-authoring an article on "sex and the internet," and the encyclopedia is "Encyclopedia of Sex and Human Sexuality."  LOL.  I guess that's what I get for talking about "boobs" so much when she was in her "formative" years!  My mother wants to know how she knows so much about sex and the internet that she can write an encylopedia entry on it!  DD said I should tell her it's "lots and lots of research!"  I think we won't tell her that.

DD2 and DGD are now safely and happily ensconced in Greensboro.  DD2 got her much coveted competitive assistantship, so she is thrilled.  DGD has made friends in the neighborhood, which she has never had opportunity for before.

And my house is VERY QUIET these last couple of weeks!

Anyway, hope you had a great birthday, girlie, and here's to Many More of them!!!

Love and hugs...

Awww, thanks so much, Bev. Hard to believe another year has passed. Whoa! Where does the time go?  We had a busy week last week with a quick 2 day trip to  southwestern Wisconsin with my mother. DH and I tagged along. Actually I think Mother is getting a little reluctant to do a road trip alone. We went to Mineral Point and New Glarus.  Of course there was more on her list, but not enough time as usual. Wednesday and Thursday DH Wes and I did a two night stay at a B&B in Hastings, a small river town just south of the Twin City metro area. It was a lovely old house full of period furniture. I had bid on the two night stay at a community college fund raiser in April. Sort of fun to do a mid-week weekend. We ate out, stopped in at our fav casino (and won a little) and just took it easy.

I have a busy week with meetings and bridge. No rest for this retiree! Need to get serious about organizing for our trip to Alaska the end of this month. This is another Mother-inspired adventure. We are flying into Ancorhage and taking a six day bus tour then a seven-day cruise flying home from Vancouver. We have never cruised and never been to Alaska, to it will be something new. Mother and her lady friend that she travels with are also going. Should be interesting.

DD Sarah, SIL Jason and the two grandchildren (now nearly 5 and 2.5) are coming in August. They will stay with Jason's parents. No room at our house. It will be fun to see the them again, although we were in Indiana for Memorial Day weekend. But, those little ones grow and change so fast.

DH and his sister have been coping with flood damage to their late mother's house in Charles City,  IA (one short block from the Cedar River). They should have sold it years ago, but sister-in-law can't bring herself to do that. There was a lot of water in the basement (maybe as much as four feet). A lot of stuff stored in the garage had to be thrown out. Sis-in-law had ServiceMaster come in and clean the basement ($3,000+). It appears that the water heater and furnance also will need to be replaced (more $$$$). Good thing that the farm land is rented and there is some income to cover this kind of expense. Still, IMHO it is dumb to be hanging on to the house when no one is living in it. Don't get me started on that subject. Let's just say someone has a major case of denial.

This is much longer than I intended. Thanks for thinking of me. Like I said, hard to believe... . Hugs, Lauri

Yes, the years fly by, and who knew getting older would be such a good thing! I remember when I thought I should stop counting at 22.

You sure stay busy with your travels! I would be worn to a nub. I travel as little as possible! But now that DGD is in NC, I'm sure I'm going to have to add a few trips a year there... good thing my current travel itenerary is so darned short!!! A trip or two to MO to see family, and if we still had our REUNION trips... I'd still love to see Minneapolis/ St. Paul area! I might just have to come see you one of these days, whether anyone else goes or not! LOL

Take care!

Be glad to have you come visit Minneapolis/St. Paul, Bev. And, anyone else for that matter. Give me a couple of weeks notice, though. We've got lots of wonderful things to see and do here. And, great shopping at the MOA. I don't travel as much as we used to. I would rather stay home, too. But, with the grandchildren in Indiana we make several trips there a year. You know the problems of having those grands too far away. <sign> Stay well, my friend. Hugs, Lauri
