Hi all

Im just writing to ask for special prayers for my best friend, I have mentioned her before on this forum. She was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years before me and then had thyroid cancer a year later. Well her thyroid cancer came back so they did another surgery on that. Well just over a week ago she had a biopsy in the same spot as her original breast cancer and she has another tumor. She decided like I did that twice was more than enough and opted for a mastectomy.

When she was first diagnosed with breast cancer she had a lumpectomy and 4 weeks of radiation and that was it, small tumor only the size of a pea. I wish at some point during all of this she has been thru that her doctors would have had her do chemo but she lives in a small town and they are not very progressive on their treatment. Also she is the type that just sticks her head in the sand and waits for it all to be over. I have been trying to keep her informed of all of her options, she won't go on the internet and do research like I did. At this point she is not sure about recon but she said she probably would do it as some point.

I guess what all of this letter boils down to and sorry that I have rambled on but Im just mad about the whole thing and dont think it is fair that she has had to go thru so much. (it is harder on the person who has to watch) We have been best friends for 30 years and she just turned 50 in July. I have seen both of her children be born, been with her when her husband was killed 7 years ago and thru all 4 cancer diagnosis. I just wish she could catch a break!! I love her as much as my biological sisters and I have 5, I just want life to be kinder to her.

Thanks for letting me vent

Bernadette,

I am SO sorry to hear this about your BF.  You are right - it's just not fair!  It's particularly hard at holiday time, which we know so well.  I will be hoping and praying that this is it for her as far as cancer goes.  I certainly hope she insists on chemo this time.  Has her doctor been monitoring her tumor markers?  I know not all doctors do those tests.  You are a great friend and I know you give her the best advice.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.  Are you cooking?
L & H,
Kathy

Kathy

Thanks for your reply, yes this has been hard on me having to watch her. She is doing great already and plans on going back to work on Tuesday.

No I did not cook for Thanksiving, it was just hubby an me so we skipped the big feast this year. We will be having a house full for Christmas so I need to start planning for that.

How is school??

I'm glad she is doing well.  Please tell her I wish her well in her journey.

My thanksgiving was very stress-free, even though I cooked and had people over.  I guess it gets easier each year.  Everything came out good.

School is winding down for the semester already.  Just 3 more weeks!  I am developing some close friendships with a few classmates.  After all the time it took to get in the program, I can't believe I'm already 6 months into it with only 1 1/2 years left!  Time flys.

Take care and have fun preparing for Christmas.
L & H,
Kathy
