Almost one full year to the day, and I should be able to put my thyroid cancer behind me. Yea!
Thankfully this was way easier than breast cancer. Yesterday I went in for the radioactive pill, went back today for the scan. 15 minutes for head/ neck and 15 minutes for chest. This was a radioactive iodine, so that only thyroid tissue takes it up and then it glows on the scan, to search for any remnants of thyroid tissue. Tissue in the neck might mean that some tissue did not get ablated last year. Hot areas in the chest would mean mets to the lungs (which is still treatable).
If there was any thyroid tissue, then it would mean having to go off my thyroid hormone for 2 weeks (we call it hypo hell) and a low iodine diet (brutal) for the 2 weeks, then another round of radioactive iodone therapy to try again and dissolve any remnants.
Endo said to have a great summer and I'll see him in October. Unlike BC, this really is it and considered cured. I seem to defy the odds to get cancer but thankfully my cancer has behaved in the positive end of the statistical curve.
Happy dancin' and hugs to you all!
