I know many of us were fascinated by the story of Dr. Jerri Neilson, the doctor who diagnosed herself and treated herself for breast cancer while stationed in the South Pole. Her story hit the airwaves around the time I went through treatment, I felt very connected to her.
I heard her speak back in 2000 and got my book autographed. While she signed my book, the local photographer for the hospital sponsoring the event, took our picture and it made the cover of their internal newsletter, so I have a copy of it too.
I had no idea she was sick, seems she battled mets for several years.
Sad day for me....
